Hi All...again,
I got the idea of this topic after laughing and crying so hard in the Honorverse favorite one-liners topic, and immediately after post-visited by RFC. Only RFC can consistently prompt his subjects to consider topics like The Gulf War and Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf.

We all identify with famous one-liners from our beloved movies.

Clint Eastwood's...
"Make my day."
"Well are you gonna pull them pistols or whistle dixie?"
"Dying ain't much of a living boy."
"There's nothing like a good piece of hickory."

And of course Arnold Schwarzenegger's "I'll be back."

We all love our one-liners as they lend strength to the character and raise the medium to immortal status. Personally they strike an emotional chord throughout my body and my eyes grow teary, burning from excitement.

The Honorverse has many such one-liner-like moments. Yet so does many other non-Honorverse sources. I am interested in what these moments are for all of you, from any non-Honorverse source. Perhaps I missed a tear. So I ask you to share your most favorite and dearest one-liners from anywhere. Has to be one line, or as near as possible.

Some one-liner-like moments cover the depth and breadth of entire paragraphs.

Fine. Wield the quill genteel.

Of course it is ok to ad lib. Please don't forget to include where one-liner originates, for benefit of us that may have missed it. We'll supply our own tissue. Here is one of my favorites, spoken by General Norman Schwarzkopf to a group of reporters...
"As far as Saddam Hussein being a great military strategist, he is neither a strategist, nor is he schooled in the operational arts, nor is he a tactician, nor is he a general, nor is he a soldier. Other than that, he's a great military man, I want you to know that."

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Hillarious. Every single one of those!
Just went thru an entire box of tissue!
Make it stop!

I simply adore Newt's mostly. My niece uses the same phrase frequently, even before she watched Aliens. We all watched it together (my sister, niece and I) and when Newt came on the scene sis and I simultaneously turned to my niece and said "she sounds just like you) which of course prompted a "does not" "does too" exchange wherein I ended with a "does too, mostly."

Even my niece had to laugh.

It irks my sister because my niece has always used her mostly as a loophole of sorts.

Sis, "have you cleaned out that junk?"
Niece, "mostly."
Sis "what is mostly, did you or didn't you?"
Niece "I mostly did mom."

Funny those two.

Thanks for these funny one-liners. Perfect before work today. Have to go in for a few hours. Important, and very heavy, piece of lab equipment arriving. Another week or so and lab complete!

Also from Gone With The Wind: 'Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn' - applicable to so very many things.

Isn't that the truth.

Interesting bit of unknown background about Newt...

At the time the movie was being made, I was in the USAF stationed at RAF Lakenheath in England. The movie casting folks were searching the various Department of Defense schools around the country for american students to play Newt.

Turns out, they asked my crew chief's daughter if she wanted to do it. Apparently, she did a short audition at the school, and from what I was told, she ended up being the one they wanted. In the end, she decided she didn't want to do it, and so they went with the girl (and her brother) they ended up with.
