The little things that make you happy

Even Ringo had Mike lose it and go all squishy. The characters are human with human foibles. That's why I like the characters those authors create.

I'd like to see Princess Irys get some live target practice. Don't want to constrain RFC's artistic license, but after being harried pillar to post by the CoGA, losing her Father and Brother to their agents, being an inch away from being killed by an Inquisitor and almost losing her Groom minutes after the wedding, it would be nice for her to blow off some justifiable steam!

A lot of fore-shadowing not to have her shoot somebody.

Plus there was all the conversation in the earlier pistol thread.

Where, if I recall -- Runs For -- suggested that a pistol would be a fine gift for the female in one's life?

Then there's the glee with which our author puts a stunned look on the faces of our evil do'ers when the weak, flighty, "helpless" female starts blowing them away.

I'd like to see Irys learn some martial arts moves and then use her skills to put some would-be attacker in his place !!

Sure, she could learn to be a martial artist if she applied herself, but 'learning a few martial arts moves' isn't going to cut it, especially against the average male who is stronger and bigger than she is, and likely also has some martial training if they're attacking her. And frankly, I doubt she will have time to focus on it.

Shooting is far more likely to be useful to her.

Totally agree. I do see her engaging in some MA training for exercise but not a primary passion. Her passion will be another campus of the Imperial College.

Yea, don't forget Honor has been doing martial arts for something like 40-50 years. It's not something you can become a master at without decades of work. If it comes to self defense the time in the pistol range is going to be faaaaar more productive for the near future.
