Hi N7AXW,

Unfortunately, due to much heavy speculation on this very theme, RFC has declared there are no other secret societies based on Shan-wei's surviving teams, federation tech, etc, years ago.

Yup, its a pity but after all, such would interfere with the story he's telling.

So get used to doing without such 'surprises'. ;)

That would be a nice surprise, wouldn't it? Imagine the possibilities... Forbidden knowledge, hidden tech the knowledge of how it works reduced to formulas and magic... Think Father Paityr's Stone of Schuler on a grander scale, but even more deeply hidden than Jeremiah Knowles journal... yet passed on thruogh the generations in hope of a new day... How can our mad wizzard blind side us? What can he come up with that would not occur to us in the normal course of our speculating?

I don't recall RFC's assertions were quite that definitive, Lyonheart. Wiggle room thy name is RunsForCelery, eh?

We can't let RFC spoil our fun... If that particular avenue is closed off, we'll just come up with another one!

Do you have a link to the exact wording he used??? I cannot believe what with the evidence of at least some artifacts laying around the Temple and vicarate there isn't some sort of escape hatch left open.

IIRC David Weber only said that Aivah Pahrsahn was not involved in a group started/founded by people associated with Shan-wei.

I think I could drive a pretty darn large truck through that hole.

Even her own husband was not officially associated with her for starters. Depending on what "associated" means. But I guess the easiest hole would be a dissenter on Langhorne's team.

Nimue's existence was a secret from those retrained Adams and Eves. Jeremiah Knowles only found out about her by chance.

The exact words that I remember is that he said that no other group associated with Shan-wei had been discovered by the inquisition. He did not say that they did not exist, if he needs them to tell the story they will have existed for a long time, if not there will be no mention of them. Remember, he gave everyone the impression that there would not be another PICA, and in LAMA we have another PICA because the story he wished to tell required it.

There is something very fishy here. Such a group cannot operate with the demonstrated proficiency & experience for such a long time in Zion without the inquisition being aware of their existence.
The only possibility I can think of is that it is indeed an old group (but not started by Shan wei) that was operating outside of Zion. But then, what was its goals ? Church reform dont need such a cell based organization. Maybe a looser team of the war of the fallen ?

Hi Alj_sf,

It has been posited that Aivah or Nynian became part of some older probably criminal group, eventually becoming one of the leaders, before connecting somehow with Samyl Wylsynn, his brother, and the circle.

That's a tale I've been looking forward to since BSRA, which is another great reason to read HFQ!

We have no indication of federation tech being used by anyone beyond Merlin and the inner circle and the self perpetuating equipment in the temple,

L
