I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he is on Old Earth awaiting an appointment with the head of Military Technology..... But yeah, it would be fun to see him again--perhaps finally meeting Honor... ***********************************************

I'd like to know when/if our friends in Manticore (and now by extension the whole GA) will revisit the topic of the Torch wormhole.
There wasn't any information brought back with Simoes that talked about what might be on the other side? I know most everyone assumes Harvest Joy just ran afoul of physics while transiting the wormhole but no one is the least bit suspicious? After all, Manpower had control of that system for awhile and must have known what was on the other side. Mesa also was quite upset with losing the system and nobody on the GA's side suspects that maybe the reason for that upset was due, in part, to the wormhole and where it goes? I wonder if the GA will ever cotton onto Mannerheim and Darius and all that before the MAN battle fleets make the point moot... *~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*

I recall a reference to Manticore mining the terminus, and defending against invasion. That might have been forum speculation, though, and not authorial statement of fact. |

Michael, Hutch. You two make me feel greedy and needy. I want to know that the next book is on its way and the arrival month and year! Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

IIRC, that was RFC asking a semi-rhetorical question in one of the threads dealing with the wormhole issue. |

That's three questions. For the second one, competent intelligence agencies don't forget about a hypothesis simply because a different one has a higher probability based on current evidence. Also, the last time we saw a discussion of the question in a canon novel was before Simoes made his revelations; in fact it was that exact question that formed part of the basis for the Terrible Twosome's first vacation jaunt to Mesa. I expect that all the relevant intelligence agencies have updated their appreciations. It's just that there's nothing they can do about it without more information (Mannerheim? Oh, really...), and not tipping their hand in public has a certain value in the spy-vs-spy-vs-spy game. I'd guess it will probably be in the next time slice. I see three possibilities: 1. Simoes knows something that he doesn't know has any relevance, like the location of The Twins and enough about its astrophysics to use it to explain the mysterious readings from the Torch wormhole. 2. They turn up enough evidence on Mesa to start chasing the MAlign down its rabbit hole. 3. More pure, dumb luck. |

As noted by the posts above, it is a question that a lot of us are thinking about.
Good points all, and I would also note that the Drs. Kare and Wix both survived (they were not on the initial transist per Torch of Freedom) and you'd think they would be quite desirous of figuring out what apparently killed their friends and comrades... But I doubt Herlander Simoes was in that particular 'need-to-know' category. Jack McBride, maybe--but no sign he passed any hints to Victor or Anton before he died.
About all I can say is..Cauldron of Ghosts and Tum-de-tum-de-tum.... ***********************************************
