I just started the book. I know I have read the previous book. I seem to have forgotten how OWL and Nahrman got the Key of Schuler. Was it mentioned in the previous book or will that be cleared up in this book?

In MTaT Paityr Wylsyn revealed his family's treasure when the Inner Circle decided to tell him the Trtuh. That was of the Key Nahrmahn and OWL were discussing. No more mention of it will appear in LaMA.

I am likely mistaken. Was it in MTaT? I think it was in HFaF that Paityr learned the truth.

Yes it is in HFaF May YOG 895. Paityr learns about the truth in chapter II and tells about the key in chapter III page 178 & sq
