I'd like to formally thank Greentea for this thread.
I started a Honorverse Sandbox thread with this same purpose in mind. It was Not well received.

I needed somewhere to ask general out of the blue questions w/o beginning a loose thread for a single question. My sense of decency forbids me from simply jumping into busy threads of busy geniuses working out the mechanics of the universe--er Honorverse.

If I'd known about your thread, I would have used it as I use it now and will continue to do so.

Thank you Greentea.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

You are quite welcome. I started this one because I had some random questions that didn't feel worthy of their own threads.
Cup of tea? Yes, please.

...am I going to get hit for noting that I'd really like to find out what happened to Allen Higgins post-Oyster Bay?

Probably.

Funny - I'm kind of okay with that.

Here's a tidbit I'd like: who is Climbs Quickly's mate? He doesn't have one as of TW, but Nimitz states at least once that he's a direct descendant, so...

Also, another treecat q: Honor muses in "Best Laid Plans" that humans will now be outliving their 'cats. Has she actually given that any thought since she adopted? Have she and Nimitz discussed it? (Of course, given her career, it's unlikely to be an issue, but still...) I assume the 'cats in general have caught on to the change...

I doubt anyone has come close to doing so yet (unless a rather 'old' treecat adopted someone who became an early prolong recipient), so I suspect they know that humans have a way of making themselves age more slowly now, but exactly how that works... not unless a med student was adopted.

In one of the short stories, I believe (Changer of Worlds, maybe?) the 'cats make a reference to prolong. They know it exists but there was nothing said of the implications of it vis-a-vis adoptions. Treecats supposedly can live around 250 T-years. Third-generation prolong can theoretically extend someone's lifespan out to almost 300 years, right? There's enough of a gap there to cause some trouble (especially if newer versions of prolong come out that are even better, although I don't think pushing the maximum age out even further than that would be a good thing).

I'm not sure if I should bring up this matter in this post or in Here comes a candle...but at the risk of bringing down the wrath of roseandheather on my head.

I've been wondering ever since I read "From the Highlands," did Ginny Usher ever receive prolong treatment? Is Kevin destined for sorrow and heartbreak like Bernardus Van Dort?
