<quotes deleted for brevity>
All this dicussion of whether or not Aivah is a PICA seems to rest on some dubious assumptions. Namely that neither Merlin, nor Owls remotes or any other means of observation available to the inner circle uses Infared or multi spectrum sensors, since I doubt a PICA has the same heat signature of a human. I doubt PICAs weigh the same, and when Merlin grabbed her hand, wouldnt he notice if the hand was artificial? |

We also have her memories of him grabbing her.
Quote from A Mighty Fortress “One,” Ahnzhelyk said, her smile going a bit off center as she remembered Zhevons’ blinding speed and the impossible strength of his gentle grasp. End Quote If she was a PICA, she would be IMO wondering if Master Zhevons was a PICA as well.

Perhaps she'll have something that will interface with the Key that Owl can't access.

On the first page of posts someone mentioned what the addition of Nimue could mean. I think it is setting up Merlin at some future time to be sacrificed in some coming battle.
Merlin is damaged by the things he has done to bring down the CoGA. His sacrifice would allow Nimue to act as the shepherd of humanity after the war without all the emotional baggage that the war caused. She is a purer form of Merlin. |

On the other hand, true silver armour would be much more effective than nanotech bulletproof underwear! |

Well, the other interpretation of that off center smile is that she KNEW he was a PICA then and there. This might well have resulted in her raising her scurity protocols to higher levels.
If she is either part of Scheuler's legacy or Shan-wei's, she would have known that Ahbraim was or had divine/terran tech. Maybe not particularly a PICA, but seriously high tech. RFC simply chose not to share that thought with us. The best bit of dissemination is performed through omission.

ericth, Merlin has been around for almost a decade now by my count. He will have shaken plenty of hands and hasn't been outed. So a PICA's hands must feel the same as a biological humans. The heat signature is probably different though.

You are correct that she has good spy trade-craft. In fact, I would go so far as to say she has unbelievable, world class spy-craft. And it is something I have wondered about for awhile. How *DID* she get to be so good? I am not doubting she is a very intelligent woman with a natural aptitude for clandestine activities. But that is not enough. I don't think that even Aivah is good enough to have thought of all this spy-craft on her own. Furthermore, could she have educated herself in a city with an active inquisition without making a single mis-step along the way? I mean, for the "Aivah taught herself espionage" theory to be true, then even early in her career, when she was young and inexperienced, she still didn't make any mistakes and give herself away. I'm not buying it. I don't think anybody, no matter how talented, could get to be as good as she is without some form of training. And most likely extensive, expert training. Now, how she got this training and who she got it from are two excellent questions. And quite possibly related to her reasons for needing to get to Zion. |

Hmm Aivah was raised in a nunnery, perhaps founded by the re-educated from the Alexandria Enclave? I can see the first line of the next book, Aivah, "Does the name Nimue mean anything to you, Merlin?"
