Hmm...someone for Allen Higgins. Who's available for him to find some love with? What about the long-suffering head of Manticoran ACS Admiral Stephania Grimm? I've mentioned before that she's one of my favorite secondary characters.

I was thinking of maybe pairing her with fellow ACS controller Michel Reynaud in Basilisk but I don't know if that would violate Article 119...

No, it wouldn't be a violation of Article 119. That only applies to the Navy, not ACS, which is a civilian organization. However, at their rank they wont be spending much time in the same place. However, I think his next posting will be the Lynx terminus, where he will meet a senior manager for the Hauptmann Cartel (offscreen) who gives him a run for his money because she's a PITA, so he sees her frequently. Love at second argument.

Nah. Eloise will go looking for solace with an old flame. Ginny will be probably be OK with it as long as she's not left out, which will lead to Victor walking in on Ginny and Eloise in the shower. Between the scandalizing behaviour, witty repartee and Kevin & Thandi walking in at the worst possible moments, the heat of the resultant blush  should power Nouveau Paris for a couple of months.

A part of me, ok a large part, feels strongly that the right love interest for Eloise is Victor Cachat. I came to that conclusion when he surfaced right before the Battle of Manticore and the humorous but serious banter between the two of them. It was heart-warming, informative and IMHO possibly premonitious. (I like the word anyways)

I am certain that I am prejudiced on his behalf, since their pairing would ape a one Anton Zilwicki and Lady Catherine Montaigne, whom I so adore. I implore!

But its also a logical pairing. They understand each other's duties and responsibilities and it can never be questioned where Victor's loyalties lie...for the quintessential patriotic patron Saint, it has to be Victor.

Lemon Meringue...please.

"I'm usually undecided betweeen pinning a medal on him and shooting him'
Eloise said this to Honor about Victor in Mission of Honor.
So is Eloise going to pair up with Victor before or after she has pinned a medal on him and shot him.

No way.

She will go for Mateo.

Two meters+ tall and nearly 200 kg of muscle will make an impression.

And just look at that pastern, not to mention his forelocks.

I always wondered if that was a typo. 200 kg is almost 450 lbs; even for a heavy-grav human that's really really heavy.

Side note: has anyone else been curious as to how much Honor weighs? Weber mentions her height a lot but I've always wondered how much a woman that tall with the Meyerdahl modifications would weigh? 100kg? 90?

Remember that the point of the heavy worlders is to be significantly heavier than normal.

And 450 lbs doesn't seem unrealistic when you consider the weight of some of our own...

Aaron Gibson, an NFL player, weighed 410 lbs.
Played in all Chicago Bear's games in 2003.

Refrigerator Perry was 382.

Nate Newton of Cowboys fame was 400 lbs.

Perhaps Mateo needs to eat a few cheeseburgers!

So Tom/Eloise would almost be a reflection of Honor/Hamish on the Havenite side? Just without the empathic senses and with furry bodyguards? ..... I think it would work. I agree. This ship leaves tomorrow all hands on deck! :D

I loved Sarnow. Word of God also said he does needlepoint and weaves as a hobby so he's about as manly as men can get. Seriously, fights spaceships, gets both legs blown off and he does needlepoint? I wanna know who married him. Because he's the luckiest man ever.

On an unrelated note. I want a Sarnow needlepoint.

Tom and Eloise would be a closer reflection than you realise. Both Tom & Eloise acquired furry treecat bodyguards in a Rising Thunder. Eloise's treecat bodyguard is called Sharp Claws. Tom's treecat bodyguard is Springs from Above.

Does this mean that treecat colonies will spring up on Haven?

I think that was the point after Yawata strike, wasn't it, that the treecats saw the danger in having all their eggs in one basket?

Just hope that Haven and Manticore remain allies in the future or what would that do to the treecat colonies on opposing planets?

And the plot thickens!

Given that Elizabeth rather casually told Eloise she'd send "a couple of dozen" treecats home with her after the wedding, I think it's safe to say that Nouveau Paris is going to be gaining at least one treecat colony. :D (....short story fodder?? Please be short story fodder!!)

And I also think it's fairly safe to say that the Grand Alliance won't break up any time soon, if ever - the only reason they wound up fighting each other in the first place was because of the People's Republic's rapid and forcible expansion under the DuQuesne plan. With the true Republic restored, Manticore and Haven are natural allies, given that they're both stable democracies with similar philosophies and a mutual hatred of genetic slavery. I see something very much in the way of the "special relationship" between the US and UK developing between them, similar to what Manticore already has with Grayson. (Besides, that's one benefit of prolong - Eloise Pritchart and Elizabeth Winton both have another century or two left at least, and I think that's enough time to cement an alliance. )

As for treecats, Tom, and Eloise... well, who knows what a pair of furry telepathic conspirators could cook up? :P

I think that treecat colonies will spring up in Haven space. Treecats saw the danger even before the Yawata strike.
In the story Changer of Worlds Samantha and Nimitz visit Nimitz's clan. During that visit Samantha talks to the elders and memory singers of Bright Water Clan about the danger. She tells them that she and Nimitz have decided to raise their treekittens off world. They invite other treecats to come with them. The treecats set up a colony on Grayson at Harrington steading with Honor's help.
