Of course, he later tries to pass what he thinks are valuable secrets to the Temple Boys but since it's garbage, the Temple Boys treat him as a heretic.

About Aivah/Nynian, I will say only this. She was born with the primary capability which has made it so difficult for Merlin to figure out how she communicates with her friends back home in the Temple Lands.

Well, I'll say this, too. As she already told him, she sends very, very few messages to them. She gets more messages from them, but Merlin's always known she has spies scattered around the Temple Lands, most of whom were recruited the same way Archbishop Jaysn's secretary was. That is, she reached out to them after identifying them as potential recruited by some as yet unknown means. (Merlin presumes it was through reports from some of those people he still hasn't located and identified, but that's only an untestable hypothesis at this time.) These people --- i.e., the spies he knows about --- are clearly not part of the group conducting active operations against the Vicarate, however, and he knows exactly how most of their messages are reaching her, mostly through an assortment of innocent-seeming commercial and personal mail which moves freely inside the Temple Lands and the Border States and only has to be smuggled the last little bit into Siddarmark. (The smuggling, by the way, is a service provided by some of the many smugglers with whom she routinely dealt in various of her businesswoman personae before she moved to Siddar City. Most of those smugglers still believe they're smuggling goods and services in defiance of Clyntahn's edict [upon which --- and whom --- they spit, figuratively speaking] and they really are moving commodities for her, with the spies' reports hidden among the bric-a-bat. That part of her communications net has never been a mystery to Merlin although I suppose I might have been a bit more definitive by what I meant when he reflected that he still hadn't caught her communicating with her people back home.

Hope that helps.

Maybe not exactly, but what's being said does suggest that she's telepathic or has some sort of genetically granted radio, likely with a problematic reception (Like the signals can only be picked up, or more likely seen by her people, from somewhere inside the temple)

...interesting.
Perhaps her mother was injected with specialist nanotech which meant that Aivah was born with the nanotech-assembled Neural Education And Training interface hardware in place...
Such a thing might include a short-range comm system...

I can't write anywhere near as well as Weber
But I try nonetheless, And even do my own artwork.

Maybe at the NFC level, but nothing greater, remember Merlin comment/thought about him being equipped with radar

I think RFC is messing up (again) with his readers. :o
He may simply imply that Aivah was born with a (very well) working brain and has devised a clever scheme. Using her charms to get someone hide a code in semaphore messages is a possibility.

That... or she is actually really old and was born with an implant and her current background story is a fabrication meant to mislead everyone.

Maybe she was a minor crew member or a child of one of the church founders and was put into stasis.

This is the only alternative I can think of to what you suggest Micheal though I think your option is probably more likely.

I am shocked --- shocked, I tell you --- that you could even suggest something like that!

Your Captain Louis Renault impersonation is even less credible than his.
And the teller is not even handing you money !

Now, why Aivah think she may need to go to Zion in a hurry is a damm good question that should kept us wondering and arguing until you give us another scrape of hint.
