I was thinking the same thing. Mike would totally find someone who doesn't esteem aristocrats intriguing.

We have completely ignored a vital question.

Who's Lester Tourville going to fall in love with??

Umm, I know this isn't going to be popular, but I initially thought he and Shannon would have a go at it when Honor was a prisoner during that entire sordid Cordelia Ransom episode. I just thought he and Shannon shared a very strong bond. It sealed it for me when he helped Shannon out by hiding the fact that she'd helped the prisoners escape.

But that was then.
Now I think Cupid really oughta' consider Tourville and Henke.

Well I did warn it wouldn't be popular didn't I?

You mean it wasn't just me??

I've always had a bit of a weakness for Lester/Shannon, particularly when Tom noted that he was especially glad "for Shannon's sake" that Lester survived - that set my shipper's antennae a-quiver.

Also you are a goddamn mind-reader because I was speculating about Tourville and Henke literally as I made the post.

I'm sure we'll hear all about Michael Janvier's rumoured companion in Solomon Hayes' new gossip column in the prison newsletter. He's apparently a hulking brute of a San Martino, who was jailed for his collaboration with the SS during the occupation. Solomon is, of course, too bashful to boast of his own success on the inside, to prevent hurt feelings amongst his old sources on the outside...

...that might actually make me like Solomon Hayes.

Temporarily, of course.

Michelle Henke ---> Lester Tourville
I think that Michelle could do with some romance in her life. I think that Lester's cowboy personality would be a nice contrast to Michelle's personality. Their being from very different backgrounds would add spice to the relationship.

I still think that Michelle Henke and Lester Tourville would make a good match. I think that we would see the sparks fly if they got together especially since they are from such different backgrounds. She's a Manticoran aristocrat, very close to the throne and an admiral in the Manticoran Navy. He's an Admiral in the Republic of Haven Navy.I think that it would be interesting to see what would happen if they fell in love. I would really like to see how Lester {who has a cowboy personality} would behave when he is in love. I would also like to see how the people close to them would react to the idea of a Michelle & Lester romance(particulary Elizabeth Winton) Their two star nations have been at war for so long and peace has so recently be made. There could be a touch of Romeo and Juliet about a romance between them. Michelle's father and elder brother were killed by a Masadan / Havenite attack. I think that a grand romance between Lester and Michelle would add excitement to the story. We could even hope for a balcony scene at Mount Royal Palace.

I would cheer so loud if this happened. I've been yearning for a Manticoran-Havenite romance for simply ages, and I think you're right - I think their personalities suit each other very well. They've both got a touch of the 'cowboy' about them - Michelle's never really behaved like an aristocrat despite how close she is to the throne, and Lester is - well, he's Lester. :D

And come on - what better way to cement the Grand Alliance than by marrying the Queen's first cousin to Haven's highest-ranking active duty officer?

I am convinced we're going to get a Manticore-Haven romance sooner or later - the question is who it's going to be, and how long it's going to take to come about. But I think Lester and Michelle are prime candidates!

What if he realized the error of his ways and went from being a tabloid gossip-troll to skilled purveyor of premium slashfic?

Talk about finding your true soulmate!

I agree wholehog, Lester and Michelle would be a very interesting love connection, if God is willing, the creek don't rise, Cupid shoots straight and the parents don't get in the way.

And by parents I mean political parents and not the biological ones.

Which in Lester's case would mean the Cabinet and their deeply ingrained prejudices borne from generations of fighting the Manticorans, and remnants of the thinking of the old regime.

And with Michelle the House of (Lords, Commons), sticklers in the Navy, her first cousin the Queen of Manticore, and her many relatives that have lost dearly to the Havenite war machine, and Michelle's own prejudice against Havenites and the death and destruction it has caused to her own heart in loss of loved ones, would all jockey to be the surrogate backdrop to her own political parentage.

But these are likewise the reasons I think it could be good and would be if these hurdles were overcome. History indeed has taught us that true love doesn't seed itself in convenience. Someone has already mentioned Romeo and Juliet. Nevertheless it could actually be good for the Alliance.

However if we think that politics shouldn't play a role in the affairs of the heart then we are entertaining naivety.

If we think that politics doesn't play a role in the affairs of the heart then we are entertaining stupidity.

Having leaped all of those hurdles I see a beautiful elaborate wedding whose RSVP list I had better be on!

Mount Royal Palace with Pritchart, Foraker, Abigail, (long list) of flower girls!
And of course the bridesmaid, Honor, or should that be Matron of Honor?! ( :D )

The possibilities are endless.

And can anyone imagine a better place for tree cat adoptions to occur?

And the loving twits that Michelle will get from Honor about Lester. I'd dress up in drag just to be in that powder room!

Not to mention again that I think their personalities are perfect for each other!

The most televised wedding since Queen of Manticore!

The more I think about this possibility, the more I like it. Can you imagine how annoyed Mike would be at having to deal with a state wedding?? While Eloise and Elizabeth just kind of smirk at each other and offer her soothing drinks?

And Lester's all "But do we have to?" and Eloise and Tom are like, "Yes! You do! Now deal with it - and don't make me make it an order!"

Also Manticore-Haven wedding excuse me while I flail with excitement because all the yes please.
