...okay, okay, fine, I want to know if [insert character I desperately love] is going to get adopted in the future.

Several years ago, RFC hinted that a certain Havenite might find herself 'catted. Whether plans for that have changed or not remains to be seen.

Oops! I may have hinted too much at who it was.

He also, rather more recently, dropped a hint that severe emotional trauma is a sort of "refining" process that intensifies a mind-glow, and that therefore increases the potency of said human's mind-glow, increasing the chances of bonding.

Now, I don't know about you, but I am quite thoroughly familiar with every major Havenite character in this 'verse, and my mind drifts toward a particular Havenite woman who has, in fact, been rather severely traumatized in the past couple of years. Am I on the right track here? (Also I would love a link to that hint, if you can somehow manage to track it down.)

(Oh sweet Tester let me be on the right track!!)

Well, I did a search at this forum, and couldn't find the post. TBH, I'm not even sure he made the post here or at the Bar, and I'm not even going to *try* searching there.

However, in my search here, I did find another post where I said basically the same thing, but with less hints and more obvious answers as to who it was, but I'll give you another hint: if you re-read what I wrote above, there's actually *two* hints there as to who I am referring to.

Also, as was mentioned in the thread I found in my search, RFC sometimes snerks just to tease, and what he says may not actually happen. So, you can take it with a grain of salt as to whether it actually happens or not.

IMO, it *will* happen, and probably in the next mainline book.

...I can't decide if I'm disappointed that it's not my Havenite girl you're talking about, or thrilled that a Havenite I dearly love will probably be getting adopted in the very near future. I think it's a mix of both. :)

That said, I also don't think my girl is out of the running yet, and I wouldn't be surprised if more than one Havenite found themselves adopted before the series is over. So I shall never, ever give up hope. :D

I think the post roseandheather was referring to was this one from the thread Spoiler Warning for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

His post includes this excerpt
runsforcelery wrote:Now, it's entirely fair to say that extreme emotion certainly helps to create bonds between humans and 'cats. And the 'cats are often drawn to humans who are dealing with grief or trauma because of the way in which those situations enhance the mind-glow. But the vast majority of bondings are definitely not "trauma based."

Am sorry it will make hard things harder, but would not—could not—change it.>

"She says," Honor Harrington said, "that the tension you and I have been under made your mind-glow stronger. Strong enough that she really 'saw' it for the first time."

Some textev on how emotions can affect bonding.

If extreme emotion can help create bonds between 'cats and humans as has been said elsewhere, the public dedication ceremony on Sphinx of a Yawata Strike Memorial/Cenotaph is likely to be one hell of a ride...

For the trauma bit, yes, but I think she meant a link to the post *I* mentioned where RFC snerked who would be adopted. That was the post I couldn't find.

I think I'd like to check up on some of the ex-Infernoites and see how they're making out in the GSN. There were hints in Echoes of Honor that Harriet Benson-Dessouix was a pretty good starship commander. I was hoping to see more of that while she was in Grayson service.

I wish I knew more about the Republic of Monica - how it is governed, population, industry, all that sort of information.

I also wish I knew more about the Confederacy - about how its government worked, system governors, the system garrisons/navies and the Confederation Navy.

Well, the "Republic" of Monica is run by hereditary president-for-life Roberto Tyler, the third of his dynasty. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we've heard all we're going to about Monica, except maybe for passing reminiscences from people who were in Terekhov's ship. The story has moved on, and the system doesn't seem to be on the way to anywhere.

I want more from Dame Estelle Matsuko. (What a shock, right?)

Seriously, though, at this point she pops into the story when the story needs her. I'd love her to have her own story, and not just a love story. I want a novel about her. I want a novel detailing the incredibly badass diplomatic adventures of Talbott's Imperial Governor. What does she do while Tenth Fleet is off running about the Quadrant? Who is her staff? How often does she talk to Augustus Khumalo, anyway? (In my head it's every night, but we all know where my heart lies there...)

I want me some more Dame Estelle, damn it. I would be perfectly happy if this series was "the Estelle Matsuko series" instead of "the Honor Harrington series". Gimme more of my pocket-size diplomatic genius!!

...
