Grendelsbane, Oyster Bay... for God's sake, RFC, give him some sort of victory before he hangs up his hat altogether!!

Even with Prolong, including the other kind, he is not a young guy.

If you are going for mind-blowing, Five Hour Energy First; stiff drink after.

Super delayed reaction: did I just get advice on how to get a fictional character laid?? By me??

... I realize this is over a week old, but I died laughing.

What Huggins really needs is a really hot, steaming, sultry, deliciously amazing shower scene. :D

You're missing a very important qualifier there. What Higgins really needs is a really hot, steaming, sultry, deliciously amazing shower scene with me.

This distinction is important.

Sorry, only fictional characters may apply for shower scenes with yours truly.

Oh, you know who else is awesome? Jessica Pherris. And if Karl and Stephanie don't end up together I will eat my metaphorical hat.

Especially since Alfred Harrington's real given name is Karl...
...you clever human. I did not put that together and I should have. (Obviously, I was distracted by certain Havenite government officials and certain Talbott governors and station commanders.)

*gleeful dance* I WAS RIGHT! I WAS RIGHT!!
Another piece of evidence: In "Best Laid Plans" Honor comments, "Honor told herself that was a good thing and tried not to think about how . . . overgrown she was beginning to feel. No one was quite sure when so much altitude had crept into the family's genes, although the majority opinion was that they could look all the way back to Great-Great-Great-Great-Whatever-Granddad Karl."

It's not definitive proof but I don't see any other reason why Weber would include a specific familiar name...

Damn, damn, and double damn. What if you are really good at pretending to be fictional? Fictionally fictional, as it were? :p

But in seriousness, I had someone to add to the list. Paul Tannerskly. He was probably by far my favorite character, and then... well, we're not going to talk about that. He was a sweet, kind, thoughtful, and intelligent person. While I understand the reasoning for... what happened, I find that I am a bit resentful of Weber for it and of White Haven for taking his place.

I don't particularly care for the White Haven/Honor thing. He doesn't feel right, and it always feels off when they're on screen together. It's like... when you watch two actors on screen, and they're both beautiful, great actors who look amazing together, but something just doesn't quite... click.

If I had to reverse any death, I would definitely nominate Paul.

I would think about it really, really hard. And then I'd say no. Sorry! (I thought about disclaiming that I am not really a complete hussy, but I thought about it some more and realised that when it comes to fictional characters, yes, I absolutely am.)

I loved Paul Tankersley, but I didn't grieve quite so hard for him as I did for a particular Havenite lover whose death we Shall Not Speak Of - probably because I love Eloise more than I do Honor. (I do love Honor, but she doesn't make my top ten favorite characters.)

I actually really do love the Harrington/White Haven relationship (though much more so with Emily as well), but I blame that squarely on the fact that I have a severe weakness for mentor/mentee romantic relationships and have ever since I read Tamora Pierce's The Immortals quartet at the age of thirteen. By the time I finally got my hands on the Honorverse, I was already corrupted.

That said, Honor/White Haven is far from my favorite romantic relationship in the books -- Javier/Eloise takes the cake on that by a very, very long way, followed by Aivars/Sinead, Helen/Paulo, Gwen/Helga, and Honor/Paul.

I will always unequivocally state, though, that Javier and Eloise is the romance of the Honorverse, and I'd even go so far as to say it's one of the best I've ever seen in any fictional medium, anywhere, ever.

Oddly enough, I like Honor/Hamish so much better now that they're settled into being married. I hated, HATED how their relationship started. Like, between that and Javier, I took about a year-long break from the books, and if MoH's cover copy hadn't explicitly mentioned Honor as being sent to Haven in person to secure peace, I might not have picked them back up. I just couldn't believe Honor Harrington would stoop to falling for a married guy.

But now that they're basically an old married couple, they seem to fit. Like the "morning after" scene where he teases her about being a duchess and she throws pillows at him. And I absolutely love every scene with her and Emily. Actually, I love every scene with Emily, period. :)

Well, in all fairness, you really can't choose who you fall for - I have fallen for someone who was bad for me in every conceivable way, and I knew it, but I couldn't do a damn thing about it. (That one took eight years to shake off.) So I can forgive Honor for that. What I can't forgive her for is being so bloody constipated about it. If they'd come clean with each other and with Emily when the whole thing began....

But then, it's kind of nice to know that even Honor Harrington is a fallible human like the rest of us. :D

Javier, though... like you, losing Javier nearly put me off the series altogether, and if I hadn't seen "peace with Haven" on the back cover of Mission of Honor when it came out, I probably wouldn't have continued with it either. Even so, this Grand Alliance has been paid for in blood and grief, and (jumping to another thread briefly) I think I hate Arnold Giancola more than any other character in the books because he caused so much needless suffering. I can only take comfort in knowing that in the end, Javier didn't die for nothing - he died in the service of his star nation and of the woman he loved, and it's the tech that came out of that second war that is going to destroy the people responsible for killing him.

...yeah okay we're done talking about that now.

And a part of me wants Eloise to fall in love again, because dammit, she deserves to be happy... but on the other hand, what she had with Javier - they were soul mates. They really were. And if she does find a second love, it has to be someone we already know, and it has to ring true. (We all know who I want it to be...)

But yes, Emily is basically their glue. Like, how would those two emotionally constipated idiots even function without her? My guess is 'badly'.
