I'm a little surprised that they didn't deliberately decide to reuse the old (aka our modern day) designation CAG and invent a title to fit it.
Probably simply substitute 'attack' for 'air'; so Commander, Attack Group.

But "Commanding Officer, Wing" made for a great one-liner :D

" Most of the nannies have told me what a wonderful mother you'd make, if you weren't so busy off blowing up starships and planets and things".

Field of Dishonor is probably my least favorite book in the series (all it really does is kill off three characters and sets the scene for the next book/evolution in the series, IMHO), but it does have a couple of good lines. One, Tomas Ramirez
"I only said I wouldn't kill you, Mr. Summervale," the colonel whispered almost lovingly. "I never said I wouldn't hurt you."

has already appeared earlier in this thread, and there are a couple of other gems...

"Dame Honor is my friend, too, gentlemen," he said softly. "Good luck . . . and good hunting."
-Admiral Sarnow after tipping off 'the gang' where Summerville could be found.

"Sar'Major Babcock, would you mind telling me just what the hell you think you're doing here?"

-Thomas Ramarez finding he has an extra passenger on his assault shuttle, followed shortly by....

"Hold it right there." The colonel turned to glare at Francois Ivashko, his own battalion sergeant-major. "I don't suppose you happened to log Sar'major Babcock as an observer supernumerary, did you, Gunny?"

"Uh, no, Sir," Ivashko said. "But—"

"Well, in that case, get her logged now. I'm surprised at you, Gunny! You know how important the proper paperwork is. Now I'm going to have to clear this retroactively with Major Yestachenko and Captain McKeon!"

"Next time, bring a goddamned drum and bugle band along!" she snarled over the com.
-The moment when Horace Harkness began to fall in love with SGM Iris Babcock.

"Certainly, Sir. I was assigned to Palace Security prior to the Maccabeus coup attempt. So was my older brother, as a member of Protector Benjamin's personal guard. He was killed, and Lady Harrington not only took over his duty to guard the Protector but killed his murderer with her bare hands—before she went out to protect my entire planet." He met Ramirez's gaze very steadily. "Grayson owes her its freedom; my family owes her life debt for completing the task my brother couldn't and avenging his death. I volunteered for the Harrington Steadholder's Guard the day its formation was announced."
-why Andrew LaFollet was Honor's Guard from the first to his last day.

For me, a one-liner must emphasise something just gone or about to happen; its very conciseness should draw attention to the sheer volume of the subject it is being used for.

Oops!

Quite simply one of the best ever, anywhere. Sadly already been commented on a few times.

Seen quite a few that made me laugh, but also a number that only go a snort. I know there is one I enjoyed that I haven't seen yet, and will have to try and find it.

I quite agree, TT, with your choice and I haven't met an Honorverse fan that doesn't have a grin when they hear "oops".

I wonder sometimes how the MWW feels, having written literally hundreds of thousands of words for the Honorverse, much of what he must consider his best work, and he is going to be most remembered for just one 4-letter word. :)

"Oh, Christ!" the first voice groaned. "We're all gonna die," it went on with a sort of morbid satisfaction. "You seen the kinds'a casualty lists she comes up with?" "Yep," the second voice agreed. "They're gonna dump us right in the crapper, and she's gonna win another medal by flushing our asses down it."

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

A speculative one liner that could have concluded a speech previously mentioned.

"You have been effectively dead for most tactical considerations since the initiation of the firing sequence of the KEW targeting your current location; in about two seconds, you will be actually dead."

I'll take that one in the gut and raise you one...

“Stand us down to Condition Two, Andy, and tell the cooks I want a hot meal for all hands.” She gave him one of her lopsided grins. “The way this jackass is maneuvering, there should be plenty of time for it!”
