Oh how I lonnnng for a cure for Emily.
I like the yarn you weave. You missed your calling. I'm talking a daytime Emmy!

I sure wish you'd kick this one upstairs to the knights at the round table.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Michael Mayhew is a fan of everything Navy and quite progressive.

It seems to me that he could be attracted to Henke or Hearns.

Both Hearns and Mayhew are accustomed to thinking in terms of marriage as part of family alliances. I think that they would find one another personally pleasing and dynastically acceptable.

I think its in At All Costs, but when Allison Harrington is talking to Emily, Emily admits that she would find Honor physically attractive if she wasn't stuck in her chair.

When, and I have convinced myself its merely a matter of when, Emily is healed, Honor and her Sphinxian attitudes on things are in for a few surprises me thinks.

The Owens Clan is already a firm supporter of the Mayhew Dynasty. There is not at this time a need for closer ties. When Abigail weds, it will be to someone she loves. She has been "corrupted" that much by Manticore.

As for Oversteegan, to Abigail that would be like marrying her own father.

Or it'll be a political marriage to the son of a Steadholder who isn't quite so firmly on board with the Mayhew reform program.

This showcases why Abigail marries outside Grayson. Her husband would have legal authority over her. No matter how enlightened, the husband decides for her. Think about Claire in Obligated Service. Her male cousin who was still a minor had authority over her because she was not married. That same level of authority will be over Abigail. What Grayson husband wouldn't have serious issues at NOT exercising that authority? There will be a stigma if he doesn't or Abigail acquiesces to her husband's authority over her oath to her nation and navy.

Not going to happen.

It was not Abigail's decision to seek service aboard RMN ships.

And, her internal dialogue shows no inclination to leave Grayson. She demands that her navy persona be kept separate from that of Miss Owens, but she seems quite proud to be carrying the banner for Grayson women as Miss Owens.

Michael is a Navy fanboy. And, he has spent time on Manticore. Within her social class on Grayson, from the limited information available to us, is there anyone she would be more likely to hit it off with? There could be contenders from Harrington Steading, but none who have been advanced as Navy fanboys, and none who are know to have spent as much time on Manticore.

For Owens clan, it is marrying into the "royal" family - a reward for staunch allies, but a risky strategy for winning over folks not staunchly on your side as it advances their status while their loyalty may remain questionable.

But, I am just saying that it would be politically acceptable. I am not saying that it would be politically arranged. If she marries, I believe that she will marry someone she wants to marry. I just think that they have enough in common that Michael could be "the One". I think that at the least he will be a natural fan of hers and that he will present her with compliments. If she finds those compliments pleasing, ...
