Let's not forget that Mateo is her bodyguard, and Abigail is a Steadholder's daughter. Frankly, the chances of her looking at him that way are somewhere less than zero - and Mateo, for all he cares for her, will almost certainly not look at her that way either.

I am nearly 100% certain that she will marry a non-Grayson - either a Manticoran or, since the Grand Alliance has formed, potentially a Havenite. But frankly, my bet is on a Manticoran - and more specifically a Manticoran aristocrat. (Which is why I think Michael Oversteegen is such a perfect fit for her.) It makes sense for her to marry into a world that also has an aristocracy, where although they might not be of the same world, they'd share a similar perspective on life and on aristocratic responsibility.

My dear Lady, consider that a Manticoran aristocrat is still too similar to her own pedigree. What is so special about that? What spark of novelty resides in aristocracy to one such as Abigail? She craves not the comfort of tradition but the allure of the less traveled road.

I suspect the spark of choosing one's grand responsibility as she did in her career will catch her attention. In that regard my candidate has been named. I suspect we won't find out who is right for some time to come and discussing the possibilities has been pleasant.

There are differences, and differences. Abigail, despite her unusual career choice, is at heart a Grayson girl to the core - look at her decision not to cut her hair, for instance, and the way she refused all the advances that came her way at the Academy. In many ways, she is a traditional Grayson girl. I think a lot of people overlook that about her.

She needs someone who can understand and accept both sides of her - the girl from Grayson and the serving officer. And I'm really looking forward to being proved right. ;)

Anticipation is a wonderful past time. I encourage it especially for those destined for disappointment. Take joy as life gives it to you, eh? ;)

It is not the traditions of Grayson that Abigail embraces so much as its moral code. What people expect from you may change. What God expects does not.

Nope.

Nope nope nope nope nope.

Abby will cross paths with Lars Zilwicki and be instantly and irrevocably smitten with him like all those other girls/women and will end up in a traditional Grayson marriage as senior wife to him, one of the Scrag ladies from Torch and Naomi Imbesi.

Oh, wait. I got this and the "Plot Twists that WON'T Happen" thread mixed up.

Never mind.

I was going to say, Abigail can toss things quite a bit more potent than rocks at his space ship.

I'm not sure if "toss" is the right word there. "Catapult at nearly the speed of light with deadly accuracy" is.

That makes sense! Now how might they meet? Perchance Michael represents the GA to the rebellious systems around Mesa. In any fade that's perfect.

Given the factoid about what prolong is beginning to do to marriage, perhaps we ought to instead be speculating about who ought to join an existing couple ala Honor? A nice domestic group marriage (or call them clans?) may be the workable future solution in the Honoverse! Check back in a century of two for that. But first breaking the social bonds of monogamy in Manticore may yet become Honor's most famous achievement!

... but that's why I like the idea of her and Carson (eminently acceptable match by Grayson standards, he's not too much older than her or too much more senior in military rank, but a fellow protégé of Honor's who is long since over any hang ups regarding women in uniform).

How about enhancing an existing relationship? Honor's father has no doubt been working away trying to find a new regeneration process to cure Nimitz... and probably Honor's hand too. But what if along the way he instead finds a cure for Emily? Honor returns from deployment to find a string of rose petals leading her to the bedroom... where three glasses of Champaign, Hamish and a very active (and ready to make up for missed time) Emily are sprawled across the bed waiting for her...
