Cthia asked me to do it, blame him.

Everyone and their mother knows about my deep and undying love for Eloise Pritchart, Augustus Khumalo, Estelle Matsuko, Tom Theisman, Javier Giscard, and Sonja Hemphill by now, but I also love "Grayson granite" Abigail Hearns to itty, bitty pieces.

Every time she shows up I want to cheer. I love that she kept her hair long, I love that it took her awhile to get used to beating up on people hand-to-hand, I love her modesty, I love her tactical acumen, and I love that she's openly and unabashedly religious. So many science fiction novels seem to treat religion as a silly fantasy; this is one of the few 'verses that doesn't, and Abigail Hearns is a prime example of that.

I also love, love, love Michael Oversteegen. I love his accent, his sense of humor, his incredible honor, the way he can put words together, his style of command, the way he'll do whatever it takes to keep his crew safe... watching him chew Grigovakis out, without ever raising his voice, was a thing of pure beauty.

Victor.

Simply because he can be the most ruthless, unfeeling, murderous (not without reason), cold-blooded killer in the Honorverse, but gets so whiny when people close to him pick on him.

Thomas Theisman.

It's funny, I'd read the whole series two or three times without picking a favorite, and then this year I started reading it over and over (lots of stress) and all of a sudden, the Havenite side of things just *spoke* to me. I always thought he and Eloise and Shannon were awesome, but now I would (and do) read the series just for them.

The whole experience this year has been different-- I started reading the spin-offs and such for the first time, and I guess I just started paying more attention, because characters like Theisman, and poor James Webster, stood out to me so much more this time around.

Another favorite, hands down, is Scott McDallan.

Tom and Eloise are my Havenite babies. They're just... they are so precious and I love them so much.

I've known since the first time I read The Honor of the Queen that if I were going to be from any planet in the Honorverse, it would be Grayson. But (like you, I didn't really lose my heart to anybody until my re-read a year or so ago) I've also known since that re-read that if my soul is Grayson's, my heart is Haven's and always will be.

tl;dr my babies.

Also Scott McDallan is in fact awesome, though I spent most of "The Stray" blubbering hysterically so did not really have enough emotional energy left to fall in love with anyone because damn you and your heartbreaking abilities Linda Evans.

Oh, you know who else is awesome? Jessica Pherris. And if Karl and Stephanie don't end up together I will eat my metaphorical hat.

Well, guys aren''t supposed to be about expressing love--especially about other guys....

I have always felt close to Thomas Caparelli, who began the series as a (not-quite-as-bright) foil to Hamish, and has developed into a solid character of his own.

He's had to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders, make the decisions over decades that could lead to victory or defeat for his nation, and those shoulders might have bent a bit under the weight, but they were never bowed.

And even Hamish has come to realize that there is more to the man than just a rugged soccer player....in many ways, Caparelli is the true hero of the SKM's War with Haven.

IMHO as always. YMMV.

I want to give Tom Caparelli an enormous hug, and I'm allowed to say that because girl. ;) He deserves so much more respect than he gets.

Especially since Alfred Harrington's real given name is Karl...

Definitely Harkness, from OBS on; and of course the Tepes breakout totally cemented that.

But Theisman quickly grew on me as well.

Edit: Oh, and how could I forget Ginger Lewis

...you clever human. I did not put that together and I should have. (Obviously, I was distracted by certain Havenite government officials and certain Talbott governors and station commanders.)

I'd have to say that Warner Caslet, Alfredo Yu and Mark Sarnow are among my favorites. I don't think that Sarnow got enough time for as promising a character as he was. Yu and Caslet? Well, they both speak for themselves. They are both quiet, competent and well-respected in their fields, with a lot of personal honor.

One of my other favorites didn't get enough time, for different reasons. Midshipman Ragnhild Pavletic. I liked how she was developing, and then... well.

Captain (Commodore?) Zevlava is developing into quite a character as well. I can't really point to one specific thing, but he seems to be one of those characters to watch. And he does have a very... interesting sense of humor.

As for main characters? Hmm. I suppose it's either Helen Zilwicki or Abagail Hearns. I'm torn between those two.

Another one? Aubrey Wanderman. Loved his character from Honor Among Enemies on.
