Remember that her name got longer over time....
I suspect that these days, like her historical namesake, she just puts 'Elizabeth R'.

One of the best closing lines came from a short story, and you had to read the entire story to really get it's full effect.

Another one from the shorrt story collections.
-Honor Harrington, about Golden Voice/Samantha, in Changer of Worlds (again, you have to read the story to get the full import). Last edited by Hutch on Mon Jan 27, 2014 10:19 am, edited 1 time in total.

And since I'm on a roll here, Crown of Slaves has a bunch of them. To wit:
And just a little later...maybe a little long for a one-liner, but it's still Oversteegens' shining moment of awesone IMHO...
And while this is not a one-liner per se, the accumulation of one liners in this conversation makes it priceless:
And lastly, not so much a one-liner as a conversation made up of one-liners, between Web DuHavel and Berry:

Oh yeah-great line. And another one that makes me tear up, from Ashes of Victory:
-Protector Benjamin. And one more from Ashes of Victory, from one of my favorite characters, Thomas Caparelli:
And one more from the same source (somebody stop me!!)
-Miranda LaFollet, Translating to Queen Elizabeth Nimitz's sign. ***********************************************

Basically every word ever out of Michael Oversteegen's mouth is pure gold, but the best line in Crown of Slaves is all of three words long:
"Get screwed, Deborah." ~*~

Hey guys this is very funny, very poignant material. I love it. You guys are terrific. It is like a new book for me... sort of a compendium right here in this thread, replete with... laughs... many! And about the length... I understand that there are many very good one-liners that lose their flair out of context. As long as they all remain one-liner-like. I think they all are wonderful... dangerous though, as I am about to bust a gut for sure. This thread could actually carry me 'til the next issue. Terekov is in a class all of his own isn't he?! Do keep them coming guys. I always found it rather interesting - book discussions - you get a feel for how another absorbs and files material. Refreshing! Informative. Exciting. Enticing. Mesmerizing. Input. Input. Johnny5 needs innnnput! . Last edited by cthia on Wed Aug 19, 2015 9:05 am, edited 1 time in total.
Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |
