Back when I was a member of the Boy's Brigade, I participated in a regional inter-brigade indoor games championship. Although I was only 12 and was the entirety of my brigade's chess and draughts (checkers for Americans) team, I hit the finals in both and managed to win one while losing the other. I might have been able to win both, but due to a scheduling SNAFU, I had to play both games at the same time. It's rather difficult to do that...

Unfortunately, I've got very rusty since. Oh well.

I can't write anywhere near as well as Weber

I used to play all the time in College but have been reduced to playing windows computer chess. I'm only at level 7 now.

I did play a reverse chess game this Christmas, I happily won by checkmate.

Do any of you play reverse chess?

Ouch, that was really clumsy of the organisers. You should probably have shouted at them until they rescheduled one event.

What is it?

Personally i´ve gone over to playing Shogi more than chess in the last decade or so.
Even though i´m not very good at it(and i win more in chess), the extra level of complexity and flexibility that it has compared to chess is really interesting.

Just the thing how you can sometimes go from being "I`M DOOMED!" to "HAHAHA, I`M GOING TO WIN!!!" with just a single well placed piece (any piece you capture, is literally captured, and can later be placed almost anywhere on the board as your own piece instead of making a normal move) is awesome fun.
Trading pieces becomes magnitudes harder to predict if it´s a good idea, because the opponent might need just one extra offboard piece to have a perfect plan to check-mate you.

Reverse Chess:

Rules.

Same as normal Chess, same piece layout.
If you can take a piece you have to take it.

Win by losing all your pieces except your King or by putting your opponent in check mate.

Stalemate standard rules. Or if two pieces are trapped and only your kings are left and prevent the taking of the pieces. Usually pawns, remember it is reverse Chess

Lose by taking your opponents last piece other than their king or getting put in checkmate.

White: HTM (USChessFed Class C)
Black: Alex (teaches chess to kids)
Roxboro, Phila, Pa March 5, 2014

French Defense
1 e4; e6
2 Bb5?; Nc6?
(W's B move is ? because Bl can make it move again
while developing his Q-side e g ... a6 3 Be2 or
3 Bc4? b5 4 Be2 or 3 Ba4?? b5 4 Bbe c5 5 a3 c4 6 Ba2)
(Black is ? for not doing that, thus allowing White
a 'bind' on his opening)
3 Nf3; Nf6 4 Nc3; d5 5 exd5; Nxd5 6 Ne5; Bd7 7 Nxd7 Qxd7
(now Black's N is pinned)
8 O-O; Bd6 9 d4; a6 (finally chases Bishop)
10 Be2 O-O 11 Nxd5; exd5 12 Be3; Rae8
(end of Opening. position is even.
Now White will attack in the Center)
13 c4 (threatening to put a P on d5); Ne7?
(this lets the Bishop be trapped)
14 c5!; Bh2+ (gives White a half-open h-file)
15 Kxh2; c6 (threat: ...Qc7+)
16 g3; Nf5 (strong: threatening forks)
17 Bg4! (now the other N is pinned by the other B); g6
18 Qd3; Re4 (attacking despite being down a piece)
19 Bf4; h5 20 f3; Rxf4 (there are several ways by
which Black might win back his piece)
21 Bh3! (traps Rock); Rxd4
22 Qxd4 (wins Exchange and offers to swap Qs,
the pin on Black's N is powerful); h4 (declines swap)
23 Qxh4; Qd8 24 Qxd8; Rxd8 25 Bxf5; gxf5
(end of Middlegame. White has 2 Rocks & 5 Pawns;
Black has 1 Rock & 6 Pawns, two doubled & isolated.
Black's only trump is a Passedpawn.)
26 Kg2; Kg7 27 Rfe1; d4 28 Rad1; d3 29 Rd2; Rd5
30 b4; Kf6 31 Red1; Ke5 32 Rxd3; Rxd3 33 Rxd3 f4
34 Rd7; fxg3 35 Rxb7; Kf4 36 Rxf7+; Ke4 & Resigns 1-0
