The artists should go watch the SHREK movies to use the portrayal of Puss 'n Boots as an example. He is cute and cuddly looking, especially when he is preparing to kill someone. This is the essence of Nimmitz.

We have discussed sign to voice translators for tree cats.

Imagine the one for Nimitz sounding like Puss N Boots for an entire movie. (With Nimitz, 'getting it' and playing it to the max.)

hell, Antonio banderas as Nimitz? I think we just sold a million tickets to this movie. :D

What's the betting that the Mad Wizard will use that idea as a joke/shout out in one of the next few Honorverse books?

Conspiracy theory #2: They were so grumpy about all of the complaints about the earlier cover art that they made blue reptilian Nimitz so that ANYTHING they came up with to replace it that even vaguely resembled a 6 legged cat would be greeted with great love and rejoicing.

Actually, simply doing Nimitz as a 6-legged cat would be fine with me. Yeah, it's the easy way out, but people (and artists) know what cats look like, and they're already cute and adorable. Adding the extra legs might pose a problem (as well as properly animating them for the movie) but at least you'd be starting with a familiar base image.

May not be very "science fictiony", but we've already seen the results of trying to do THAT.

From his descriptions in the books, Ive always visualised him as a sort of cross between an exotic cat type like a siamese or similar and a weasel. sort of longer snout and body than a cat, and a longer muzzle, but still cattish ears and paws for climbing. The best of both animals really.
