On treecats and how they consider their enemies...
"Those that have been suitably dealt with, and those that are still alive." Touched on again in 'At All Costs.' But not sure where first appeared. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

Not exactly a 'one-liner", but still very good.
"Dear God. She doesn't know we're here." -Alice Truman, The Honor of the Queen. Last edited by Hutch on Wed Feb 05, 2014 11:11 am, edited 1 time in total.

Nobody actually says it, but one particular narrative line in Ashes of Victory very nearly had me rolling on the floor in laughter.
"Hamish Alexander stood on Benjamin the Great's flag deck with his hands clasped behind him and tried very hard not to feel a sense of godlike power." ~*~

Harkness, on opening the Brig on the Tepes:
"Sorry it took so long, Captain." Another great line from right after that: "We've gotta haul ass if we don't want to end up with a real bad case of dead!" |

Another narrative line that will always stick with me, because the character it is referring to is one of my all-time favorites:
"Terekhov felt his jaw trying to drop and restrained it firmly." ~ Aivars Terekhov, as Admiral Khumalo does the polite military equivalent of giving President Tyler of Monica the finger and the general gist of "...and the horse you rode in on." ~*~

Rear Admiral Hutch,
I think that's an excellent one-liner. It's all on one line, or between quotation marks. We will accept all that are in the spirit of one-liners. Nice. Input. Johnny5 needs input. Commander roseandheather. It is an honor to share your angle on reads. Refreshing. I adore formal book discussions and have always found it quite interesting the female side of it. I truly feel honored. I can picture White Haven on Benjamin The Great's flag deck too. You remind me of Carolyn Wolcott. Oh how I miss her. "Flatterer. Now go play with your spanners." From 'Honor of The Queen.' Alice Truman to her engineer on removing all the safety interlocks off of the engines so as to bring the cavalry back in time, possibly. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Ensign Rnewan,
I knew I'd be on the sofa tonight. This thread has me busting a gut. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

Anything Allison Harrington's ever said. A selection:
"Because my full name is Benton-Ramirez y Chou." "I bet you could have some fun chasing him around the command deck, dear." "Do you think I should wear the one with the deep V neck or the one with the slit to the hip?" |

"It was also Clausewitz who said 'Politics is the womb in which war is developed," Mr. Houseman.
Honor to that jackass Houseman in 'Honor of The Queen.' Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

"Sooner or later someone who is less reasonable than you are is going to call on you and if your military can't cover it's I.O.U.'s you lose.
