Book 5: Ideas and hope

THe first three books were about the journey off the planet, while the fourth was about roger restoring the rightful rule of the empire. NOw we would have to see Roger dealing with the taitors and enemies of the empire while fixing the faults.
SO dealing with Prince jackson and allies, then destroying the saints.
I was wondering if roger would invite that space nation that funded his coup. The one with human, honorable aliens and the alien truth detectors. INstead of attempting to conquer them like jackson, would he invite them in to the empire, truthfully telling them that he is in great need of honorable allies and warriors, and he wants there to be more honor and truth in his court and empire.

Or...how much is King Roger willing and able to "give away" in order to pay pack "that political entity" that literally made his "coup" or re-coup even possible? Or...sometimes you get in return more than you really wanted in the first place?

This may be a political weakness in the book series. Nobody does something like what "they" did for NOTHING. Was there some sort of inside quid pro quo that we readers are not yet aware of? Good or bad? Humm. HB of CJ (old coot)

The quid pro quo might have been preventing the invasion they knew was coming. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to it, but that was a big factor in their decision.

I forget which of the alien races, but one of them is a warrior society. If accepted into the empire, they could recruit the males in to their armed forces, as they are more restricted when concerning the armed forces. Having access to a pool of giant clawed koalas to bulk your forces is just really awesome. DUe their small size and armed forces, no one sees it worth while attacking them, so little opportunity for battle/glory. THe empire is filled with minor conflicts, so great way to relieve excess agression.
Even if they wont join, they could recruit numbers for the basik own, and there may be plenty who would like to join.

THis will make them seen as the better human nation to other alien races so good pr move for the future.

Even if Roger did not succeed, he would keep Jackson preoccupied.

The Aliens could also make a deal with the Saints if they needed to.

The "deal" that Roger worked out with the Alphanes (which consist of the Althari [the bears]and the Phaenur [the lizards], as well as some humans) was basically a 'common interest' situation.

The Alphanes have no interest or intention to be absorbed by anyone... in fact, it was made clear that the Althari in particular would NEVER surrender under any circumstances; "fight to the death" is apparently not just a saying amongst them - it is tantamount to a iron-clad promise in their culture.
They very well might ally themselves more closely with The Empire of Man with Roger in charge - against the Saints or Prince Jackson (or both in turn!) - but they are determined to stay an independent entity.

The deal with Roger included the Alphanes getting hold of top-of-the-line Saint technology (as well as intelligence information) that was onboard the Saint Commando ship; as well as guarantee that Roger (assuming he was successful in reclaiming the Empire) would never act against them, and in fact would owe them a tremendous debt. Roger's victory would prevent massive defensive problems for the Alphanes, and allow them to maintain secure borders.

Roger did talk of bringing Phaenurs to the Empire's Court to "make it a more honest place" (something like that); and the Phaenur who was there recommended that Roger hire civilians, not government employees for that purpose.

I found a site that has three chapters that are supposed to be from book #5. If true, the new book will start off three days after We Few ended. All three chapters deal with Prince Roger, now Emperor, holding court to be formally crowned and make his new government.

Check out the thread "Yesterday John posted some snippets..." earlier in this forum. If that is what you read, it is a copy from John Ringo's website for the new book.

Is it http://jiltanith.thefifthimperium.com/? If so, that is Joe Buckley's site. What you see there is "official" (that is, official releases - usually from pre-final draft of the book, so things sometimes change in meaningful ways). If not, it probably isn't authorized, but may well be the actual release.

It is possible that right after Roger puts down the civil war that the Saints invade the Alphanes And they call on him to help him. And with his military reduced and tired of war he has to full fill the pledge he made. He comes to their aid and with his other promise tot he Saint Captain he takes them down. This could be a way to bring the Alphanes into the Empire. But most likely it show the Honor of his house to it's allies.
