Depending on just how much David is involved with the production of the movie, the next mainline Honorverse novel--the sequel to ART and SOF--may not be out until after the movie is released in 2016. If his role is just to answer a few emails a month, there may not be that mucb of a delay, but it is daily involvement with teleconferencing and trips to the studio, then he'll be too busy to write.
For comparision, when Arthur C. Clarke collaborated with Stanley Kubrick to make 2001: A Space Odyssey, he didn't write anything for the four years of the movie's production. |

David is a large enough name that he doesn't need Baen or Tor to sell books. If he published the next HH book via Amazon it would sell fine and he'd make significantly more per book. If he wanted to make yet more money he could get someone to front him the money for a bulk printing, cover art, editing etc and get Amazon to just do fulfillment.
So far he hasn't wanted to go that route. |

Wow, looks like we won't see another mainline Honor book for quite some time.

This is nothing new. We waited almost four years for Strom from the Shadows after At All Costs. It wont be the end of the world if we dont get a mainline book in 2014 after we had two major releases in 2013 - which Toni doesnt say btw, no projected release date doesnt mean that Weber isnt working on it. We might very well get another Earc in late 2014 for a spring release in 2015.
Also keep in mind that we are likely to see more other Honorverse works. There probably will be more books in the Treecat series, two volumes of the companion will be released as well, maybe even another anthology book. |

This is a fallacy. Charlie Stross once wrote a piece on this, in which he explains that while a writer could "cut out the middle-man" and go the self-publishing route if he or she is successfull enough, it also means that the writer has to do everything the publisher does by himself (or pay others to do it for him), which eats into the time the writer can spend writing and the profit margin that remains at the end. In the end, while MWW may have a big enough name to make self-publishing work, the end result for us readers would be less output. |
