Also, I notice a few references to Civil War in the US in the event of a default. Reminded me of an interesting fact that I became aware of at work. I work at a shooting range in Perth, and lately the price of ammunition, powder and other paraphernalia has be rising. We found out this is due to most of it being imported from the US, where the Dept of Homeland Security recently ordered almost 3 BILLION rounds of hollow-point ammunition....
In around a decade of warfare and insurgency in Iraq and Afghanistan, how many rounds were needed by Coalition forces? And since the Hague convention prohibits the use of Hollowpoint in warfare.... That is true, however the Hague and Geneva conventions only apply the military. When those conventions were written the concept of non-military government organizations involved in military-style operations didn't exist.
As I understand it, the department of Homeland Security is not technically protected by those conventions so they are not limited by them either.

The Hague convention does apply to military ammunition use, but internal police departments, FBI, secret service and security types and others do not apply Hague rules to domestic situations. The Hague was meant to eliminate dum dum type bullets (such as bullets with a liquid mercury core), but most police and protective service people who have to use a weapon are more interested in being sure the perpetrator is stopped than in being politically correct.

For a very cold blooded non-partisan analysis of the politics of the shutdown.

That was exactly my point. This is ammo that can only be used on non state actors; ie, rioters, rebels, militias, etc. "When you talk about damage radius, even atomic weapons pale before that of an unfettered idiot in a position of power." Sam Starfall |

At least by those who actually signed the treaty. http://www.icrc.org/applic/ihl/ihl.nsf/ ... lected=170 Those countries who didn't sign it (like the minor power the USA, which was a minor power in 1899) may choose to abide by its rules but there is no legal reason that they HAVE to. |

Obama Administration uses federal funds to spread it's make it hurt Propaganda on this issue. Compare privately funded propaganda and subtle tax payer funded signs keeping the public from public monuments :
Hope the Bastards ain't fooling anyone out there neither side is currently willing to compromise, and both are equally guilty. The fact that Obama's golf course for his enjoyment is considered more important than public enjoyment of public monuments is a telling point IMHO. Politicians, I could just puke! Let me get this straight. It is not a violation of international treaties for President Obama's goon squads to use their 1.6 Billion rounds of ammunition to shoot American citizens? Okay, then I will not hesitate to shoot the goon squads with Armor Piercing Incendiary rounds. Does wonders on automobile fuel tanks. Smoked pork anyone? |
