I wonder if any of the 'angels' used cryo-sleep and
there might not be additional faction(s) waiting to
pop-up to the consternation of all. Cloning also comes
to mind.

IIRC there was some sort of time limit, or at least a not insignificant failure rate after a period [centuries??

This is one of those ideas that has been put forth before. The notion of cryo-sleep the entire time away to come back at the 1000 year point, or a hybrid trip broken up into 200 year fragments. Cryo-sleep 200 years, be awake a few years, then back in again.

Well, there are fundamental limit - the radioactive decay inside the body. Without active cells working, the DNA damage would multiply until become fatal.
