As far as I can tell, he's last seen aboard the good ship Southwind bound for sunny, tropical Zion to be welcomed with open arms by the Temple.
Where'd he go? Was he eaten by a Doomwhale? Waylaid by a horde of drunken midget vigilantes with a lust for justice? Abducted by little green aliens and probed for fun and for profit? .

No he was attacked by a bunch of mutant cocker spaniel's and rabid gerbils or was it vicious Pomeranian's. |

That's an interesting question. When he ran to Zion I figured he'd show up again, but we've never heard about him since.
He certainly deserved an unpleasant and final end, but I guess we'll have to wait for AtSoT to find out. It's futile to speculate Philip Stanley |

Best guess is he's being entertained as a guest of the inquisition. |

We forget that much of the Jihad stems from the decision of the Church to grant Tahdayo Mahntayl the Earldom of Hanth. It marked the greatest interference of the Church until then in the internal affairs of a kingdom, without proof of outright heresy or blasphemy. Mahntayl fled to Zion because his chief military advisor planned on selling the idea of his return to power (and perhaps an even higher position if he proved useful and loyal) once the Church crushed the Charisian heresy. Since that did not happen as expeditiously as was initially expected, it is entirely possible Mahntayl is still in Zion, either living off some Church fund that was established for him (if Vicar Rhobair was feeling generous) or else living in abject poverty and spending most of his days drinking like Bonnie Prince Charlie and promising himself that he will return to power someday.

Any of the above are possible, it's just that Tahdayo Mahntayl is probably the most developed "throw away" character I've ever seen DW produce. Typically, if they get more than a paragraph or two description, they're part of a later plot device. Granted sometimes they have to wait until the next tome to be utilized, but we're what, five books into the arc from the last peep we've heard from him? Seems a little out of character for our author.
I was beginning to wonder if I'd missed something. .

He serves one of two possible purposes:
1) He was an essential element in coloring in the secular reasons for the G4 actions against Charis. RFC also used him to introduce Hawerd Breygert as the Earl of Hanth and reintroduce Hektor as the Duke of Darcos. Both of whom would play central roles in the story. Their characters are also concisely portrayed in counterpoint to Mahntayl's complete self-centeredness. 2) Mahntayl will be used by the inheritors of the G4 mantle in the second story arc just as he was used originally. They will use him as justification to re-launch hostilities even though Charis did not break the terms of whatever peace or armistice is agreed upon. That's my two bits.
