So, I know that Clyntahn has done his best to keep all the secular power in Zion and the Temple out of the hands of the Temple Guard and firmly in the Inquisition, but with the way the war's going as of the end of HFQ, I think it's possible that could change. I think Maigwair will be able to justify placing an AoG garrison in the city of Zion and the Temple, ostensibly to protect against Charisian Marine attacks from Temple Bay, but it could also give Maigwair his own counterweight to Clyntahn's Inquisitors.
Does this seem likely to anyone else? |

Oh, it will be more than justifiable, it will be obviously necessary to any rational eye.
Clyntahn will probably still veto it. |

If he can have inquisitors watching every Guard officer all the time, he may go along. It's going to be a desperate circumstance, after all, and close and thorough oversight may be sufficient security for him. |

Exactly. The only way to do it would be to have a large unit just turn up without warning, and then they would have to be utterly loyal to Maigwair and willing to round up inquisitors and fight them if necessary. It would represent such a huge challenge to Clyntahn that the rest of the GoF would need guarding at a sufficient level that Clyntahn was impotent against them. I doubt it's practically feasible and I doubt that Maigwair has the necessary physiological attributes to attempt it. |

Alternatively the increased Zion garrison could all be inquisitors and not Temple Guard. Think of how large the World War II German SS or Soviet NKVD forces got by the end of that war. Both groups started out largely as leadership protection/internal security forces.

I don't see any way to get an army there without Clyntahn knowing about it. Maigwair wouldn't live to the next day after Clyntahn found out unless he went into hiding. The only way I see for Maigwair to get an army there would be with Clyntahn's approval, so it could happen, but not until Zion is threatened by EOC.

Yeah BUT what about "Helm Cleaver" operations? The Inquisition is probably running short of Clyntahn-vetted agents. The problem with these kind of loyalty agents is that they require extreme dedication AND ability to think, a dichotomy that has sunk such efforts in the past. The Inquisition needs presence wherever there are troops AND where there is "New Thought" manufacturing AND in Zion AND in foreign capitals AND ...
Add to that, the defined policy of Charis towards the Inquisition, and the body count alone has got to be getting thin! So if Maigwair points out the need for 'security troops' closer than currently available and does it after an apparent "smash and burn" EoC raid ... Just because Clyntahn is paranoid does not mean that there aren't any people after him. Quite the contrary! -----

My notion of a garrison would be BGV's boys after the GoF have been stretched out on a rack...
