A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

contraction of 'sneaky smirk'

The gentleman who got hold of an ARC, then informed us that the cover is accurate, without saying how, or what it illustrates, provided a classic example. In fact, that one would qualify as a type specimen if we were paleontologists.

Somehow, the definition has been stretched to include pre-publication spoilers. That's the way most people use it.

There is also the concept of the "Snerk Collar" which is a polite period where readers forgo unmarked disclosures from a new book for about a 30 day period. Those of our compatriots who live at the end of long delivery times will thank you for not marring their enjoyment. Use of SNERK or SPOILER warning in the thread are greatly desired. ;)

I got mine! Sort of.

I called two bookstores Friday, in a city about 55 miles away. They both said they had it but wouldn't sell it until the release date. When I explained that it was a soft release I was told, "We don't do that."

<sigh> Well, Okay. I don't really need to read it all weekend. I can wait until Tuesday.

So, in preparation for Tuesday, I gave my youngest son some money and asked him to buy it for me. He's attending college in a city 45 miles away in an entirely different direction. I, of course, anticipate beginning to read it at 5:30, as soon as I can get home after work. At 5:30 I find that he has bought it for me, but has decided to stay late to attend some kind of musical program. It's going to be 8:30 or so.

Okaaaay. I just have to wait a little while longer.

At 8:30, however, I find that youngest son has somehow left the book in middle son's vehicle, middle son having driven to a third city 60 miles away in an entirely different direction. The book is receding!

ETA--unavailable at present.

My great hope right now is being able to finish the book prior to the release of the next book in the series.

I merely tell you all this in explanation for why I'm patiently chewing the limbs off trees and splitting wood sans axe.

It's a part of my religious tradition that one doesn't pray for patience, else God will give one situations to practice on. I strongly suspect that one of you, and you know who you are, has been praying for me to be a little more patient.
