...to get a copy of HFQ today? Hypothetical question. For example, if a forum member was to post that a book store had gotten copies early and had them on sale right now. How far would you be willing to travel to visit that book store?
As for me, I'd say I would be willing to do a 2 or 3 hour drive. But only because it is a weekend and I am off work till Monday. So I'd have time to get there and back today and read the book tomorrow. |

The online retailer that I have pre-ordered the book is pretty much the one that is most likely to get the book before any others in the country. I'll have the book delivered to the front door pretty much the day after they get it from the States. Getting the book a week or two early isn't worth driving all over the country even if some other store managed to get it earlier. |

We are 40 miles from B&N in Sioux Falls, although it would depend on how early we are talking about. Less than about 3 days and I'd just wait and download to my nook when it showed up. Id get the dead tree version on my next trip to town. There is such a thing as good sense, after all. Since I only buy the ebooks, the answer is zero!
Not that I won't grab HFQ's 1's and 0's the second it's available online!!! "Oh bother", said Pooh as he glanced through the airlock window at the helmet he'd forgotten to wear. |

I've managed to drive 1000 miles in a day once. Literally. I set the odometer to zero before starting out and it was just leaving 999 when I reached my destination. Had to refuel three times and was running on fumes at the end there.
But I don't see doing that just for a book that I've already pre-ordered for my Kindle Fire. At the very least, I'd like to sleep in my own bed at the end of the day. |

I drove from Tacoma, Wa to San Diego in 19 hours (1232 miles)back when I was in the Navy. Why because an officer who shall not be named forgot to buy an airline ticket... I left on Sunday morning at 8:00 am and 19 hours later early Monday I arrived for a school I was to attend. Fell asleep in the parking lot and nearly missed part of the class...
Will I drive for a book.... Never I will wait for it to be delivered.... |
