What if charis star to publish all these new commetary and philosophy books? Not ones that speak against the temple, just about how god loves us all, and that they are not a religion based on hate or fear.
THe best thing is they can uses the merlin remotes to plant copies in nearly every library in the world, especially in the ones of their enemies. the inquisition is sure to ban any book created by the charisan church. how do any of them explain having a copy, perfect way to occupy the inquisition. |

Technically they already do IIRC Charis publishes Mykahl Styaners collected sermons and writings. They are wildly popular in Old Charis, Emerald, Chisholm, Tarot and to a lesser extant in Siddarmark. Also IIRC local priests read and use his old sermons in there own sermons. |

Incidentally, an interesting question is slightly to the side. Were there ever a REAL "Shan-wei worshippers" on the Safehold? After all, even in the Middle Ages Europe there were local cults, essentially denying the tenets of the dominant religion.

(fixed spelling and grammar a bit) Or you could just start printing copies of textbooks that verifiably and provably contradict the teachings of the script - undermine the attitude that if it is in the script it must be right, useful for teaching the next generation in Charis too. A little Galileo moment may be in order - do any of the outer planets have visible moons? (this pokes holes in the crystal sphere model that the textev says in in the Script, good microscopes could do likewise). Make the books look older than they are too. |

The only heresey Charis is guilty of is the rejection of the CoGA authority and the Book of Scheuler.
If they wish to argue against The Writ I would recommend arguing against some of the tennets of the CoGA. For example, if God is omnipotent and evil is the product of fallen archangels, why does He allow them power to harm God's children? If the answer is the free will argument, then God want's humanity individually to choose between Good and Evil. After all if even the unfallen archangels were insufficient to keep Evil out of Safehold, God must have allowed Evil entry for a reason. That reason is so that humanity can express their individual free will in rejecting Evil. Ths argument would support the idea that the moral responsibility of the CoGA is the teach and guide and not to coerce individuals as the choice that God requires is made by the individual. All that is for down the road. Right now what is important is to remove the ability of the CoGA to coerce. |

Are there already heretical texts or knowledge already out there?
There must be some stuff that has been baned, so if copies suddernly were found hidden away in libraries, it is sure to cause trouble. |

About the only thing that could exist would be original copies of the Writ before the additions after the war against the Fallen. |

How about Merlin (or now Nimue) posting as a writer and submitting drafts for such texts as Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, The 3 Musketeers, Uncle Tom's Cabin at a printers place? Novels are are great way to get people to think as they entertain. I would also start doing some of this on the sly in Harchong or other places not within the Empire's influence. Esp. with the serfs or slaves in Harchong or other nations. You have to pick carefully and edit out any tech like steam trains that they don't have yet.
Then there is music as well. A few key protest songs that people can't help humming like Blowing in the Wind. |

Hi Karidrgn,
Welcome to the forums, enjoy your favorite beverage on the forum. I think OWL and Nahrmahn have the most time for adapting such classics, but that probably should wait until the current war is over, given the time pressure for all they're monitoring. Music can be very powerful, but when humming something could get you questioned by the inquisition, thanks to all their informers, its a little impractical at the moment. L
Any snippet or post from RFC is good if not great!

Thanks for the welcome. The problem is that Duchairn has managed to tap the man power of the Harchong empire. So, need to shake things up there. And in order to ban something it first has to exist and be perceived as a danger, which means people have read it / heard it and someone in power has noticed it. Takes time. Besides, since tech / military development is being directed by Merlin and others of the inner circle, Nimue could use a project of her own that exercises her abilities more than just Corrisande. And people will tolerate stuff that's in fiction when they won't tolerate it non. Heck, I've learned more about history, economics, politics and technology from Weber / Flint than I've ever learned in a text book. |
