We have been accustomed to getting a new Safehold book once a year in September, until LAMA got delayed. But what is the projected schedule beyond LAMA? I'm too much of a pessimist to imagine the next volume is coming in September 2014, but is it going to be back to September 2015 or might we hope to see it a year after LAMA in Feb/Mar 2015? Anyone got any info, or is RFC willing to share?

I don't have any detailed information on RFC's writing schedule. But he seems to be a busy guy. Last I heard RFC is going to continue the Multiverse series with a different collaborating author. And he has to write the next Honorverse book at some point now that Eric Flint has "Cauldron of Ghosts" in the pipeline. In addition, there are plans underway for Timothy Zahn to write books in the Honorverse, but at a much earlier point in the Star Kingdom's history than the current novels. RFC is not actually writing this series, but I presume he will have some input and involvement in the finished product. I have also heard that RFC and John Ringo have plans to continue the Empire of Man series. Finally, I think he still plans to do more work in the Bahzell series. Given all this, I am thinking we will be lucky if we get another Safehold novel within 12 months of LAMA.

IIRC there has been a post from RFC about this.
His intention is to return to one safehold book each september, next one after LAMA september 2014.

But his writing schedule and TOR's publishing schedule are not necessarily the same.

And he has got a life.

Henry Brown, Yes, RFC is one busy guy, that's both why I was asking the question and concerned about the potential answer!

Tanstaafl, I missed that post. Could you point me at it? Thanks.

Sorry Randomizer, I have been going throu RFC's posts since march and I can't find it. :(

Either I dreamed it, or it is somewhere in an unrelated post.

In the video of his Q&A panel at Honorcon, he stated that to make a Sept 2014 release of the next Safehold book he would have to have a finished copy to TOR by the end of March next year. But he also stated that he couldn't even start it until early February. It wasn't clear where the reality will be, but the one a year is still on the table as a plan.

Thanks. Since it takes TOR 5+ months to handle their end of things, I would guess that means that the next book will be early 2015,at best. I don't know how much elapsed time it takes RFC to get a book to handover stage, but with the many other projects he has in the air 6 or 7 months doesn't seem all that long.

The MWW is one of the few practicing authors that can put 2 and sometimes 3 books out a year. Most others struggle to pen one a year, and I can think of more than a few where 18-24 months is more the norm.

He writes very, very fast compared to almost any current author, but 2 months might be pushing it. IIRC, he's written fairly long complete books in 60 days before, but that's when he was working exclusively on one book at a time, with no side projects or little ones. I think he wrote the book we're waiting for in something like 3 months, but then got caught up in some editing changes that pushed it back.

If they made Christmas of 2014 for the next Safehold I'd be ecstatic. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that our favorite author gives us more wonderful stories in a given timeframe than anyone else alive. A testament to his abilities that no matter how fast he is, we always want more.

Think of the wailing and gnashing of teeth we'd all be doing if he wrote at GRRM's pace...

Think of the timeline and results of DW & GRRM trying to co-author a series...

That would be a great combination I think. I enjoy GRRM s work as much as David Weber's
