The next book will just wet our appetite for the last book in the Arc I suspect with a "cliff hanger ending."

can't wait till it arrives though!

I hope we get at least one book with Safehold back in space confronting the Gbaba...

I suspect the current series really will only deal with the 'current war'. The Great Reveal and any subsequent unpleasantness will be a new series. Either the last books in that will deal with the Gbaba or they might be reserved for a third series, depending on how much detail RFC wants to show or how much energy he has got by that time. Sadly series 2 may not immediately follow series 1. He really seems to have too much on his hands right now, with Safehold, Honorverse, War God and Multiverse series all active at once. He hasn't posted anything at all since July 28 so he must be having time management problems.

Frankly, this is what scares me - will both the author and I live to that point. MWW was born in 1952 and thus now qualifies for early US Social Security. IIRC, we have another (projected) 5 books before we get Safehold back into space (Arc III). MWW has 3+ universes besides Safehold that have pending books. Not included in that count is the "Heir to Empire / Dahak" series that I would dearly like to see another book or two. Nor does it include those wonderful semi-single shots like "Armageddon Troll" or "Path of the Fury"! MWW has such an imaginative trove that I guess he has to clear some of these to get to the next ones in the series. :?

OAR was published Jan. 2008 and BSRA came in Jul. 2008. Thereafter the books started at rough year intervals with BHD (07/09), AMF (04/10), HFaF (09/11) and MTaT (09/12). Then our comfortable schedule gets stretched with LaMA (02/14) and now HFQ (10/15). Health issues and such are NORMAL for non-PICA & non-ProLong humans at these ages so I quail a bit at what this timeframe might stretch to.

The one bright spot in this gloomy speculation is the improving technology. I am uncertain what voice dictation software MWW uses, but I just got notification of Nuance's next version of "Dragon Dictate for the Mac" (v.5), that promises a 15% improvement in speed and comprehension. Perhaps that will speed up these next volumes.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the above will do ANYTHING to speed a snippet! :(

Yes, RFC uses Dragon Dictate, although if it's already fast enough to keep up with his dictation and edits, we won't be seeing the books any sooner.

I also share the worry that RFC will shuffle off this mortal coil before he can tie up the Honorverse, Safehold, and the Multiverse. Another Fury book would be nice too, but WAY at the back of the list!. Since his Bahzell books aren't my favorites (I read him for SF, not for fantasy) I wouldn't mind if he finished all the other series before writing another one.

The delays in the past year have also been due to Sharon's health, so he's had more than his usual amount of spousal care and daddying to do in the past year, which is why we aren't reading the entire HFQ at this very moment! Toss in a few conventions (QUIT GOING!) and we are bereft...

On the other hand, there's a chance he'll outlive me, so I suppose I can always pick up the books in the next life! (Is it stealing if your find a reader and invisibly read the book over his shoulder?) ;)

For those of you who think this actually works, sorry, but since the "change my tagline" strategy didn't work to get us a new snippet the last time I tried it, I'm sticking with my current tagline for now, since I rather like it. Besides, I didn't write down the instructions on how to change it, so it would take me ten minutes or more. Grumble, grumble...

RFC will snippet when he snippets, and in the meantime we may as well form a "Drak for Snippeter!" thread to plead with the celery chasing hexapod to please hand off the posting of snippets to Drak again. Yes, we'd get short snippets, but we'd get them on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and that beats talking about random subjects for a month until we finally get an entire chapter at once (which I'll never complain about!) but I feel those chapters don't get their due in the forums, because we get them all at once.

Crossing my fingers for this weekend...

I have a hunch that most, or all, of the fantasy stuff coming from RFC is because of contracts. I'm impressed the man gets as much done as he does, given Sharon's problems and the age of his children. I remember how life got more interesting when our two were teenagers.
I don't know the history but I think having Drak doing the snippeting would be a win-win for all parties so hope RFC will make that change.

Can I introduce you to L. E. Modesitt Jr., born 19 October 1943 and still writing and attending WorldCons? I just saw a picture of him with Robert J. Sawyer at the current one in Seattle. Robert A. Heinlein had his last book published when he was 77 (Job: A comedy of Justice). Our esteemed author is also 1 year younger than I, so please do not hustle him into his grave nor me into mine.

:P
As a fan of the "Forever Hero" & "Recluce", no intro to L.E. Modesitt Jr. is needed and yes, R.A.H. was still writing at 76+ (would to God that he had the current dictation technology that MWW enjoys!). And, surprise, I am older than YOU so the same back at you! 8-)

HOWEVER!!! Pertinent facts remain. Primus - IIRC, our illustrious author planned this initial arc of overthrowing the CoGA theocracy in fewer volumes than our current count of 8+, no? I'm not arguing with the MANY hours of pleasurable reading and forum discussions BUT it does appear to delay the denouement of wiping out the Gbaba as they so richly deserve! ;)

Secundus - MWW is not writing for one, nor two, nor three universes NOR is he writing a single book for his most prolific Honorverse, although maybe the wording should be 'producing' or 'lead writing' for the other paths there. While others have had multiple Fictons (RAH - # of the Beast) (yes Modesitt), MWW does seem to do this by the nines and this diverged effort does take time!

SO, my SINCERE HOPE is that MAD WIZARD WEBER (MWW) have the kindness to his reading public and at least make a start in closing off these marvelous universes BEFORE the inevitable that would lead us to the unfortunate non-Weber writer being called in to complete the job. Of course, there is always the possibility that I will do the coil shuffle before MWW and be reading the latest Heinlein in the Celestial Library while waiting for the Gbaba / Mesa / Saints / Kontovar ... messy but satisfying endings. :D
