OAR said Safehold was "thousands of light years" beyond any Gbaba sightings. If they are going to have a multi-thousand year head start, might as well let electric technology develop naturally. It took only one thousand years to go from Safehold-level tech on Earth up to the level of the TF, which was only fifty years from defeating the Gbaba. This time around Safehold has access to the equivalent of a major TF university library to use for bootstrapping. Further, the technological development could be specialized for fighting Gbaba.

Minor nit: It was from point of origin, not "beyond any Gbaba sightings." The hope, of course, is that there wouldn't be a major difference between the two. Don - When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

I got the impression that Safehold is so far out that the Federation had never explored that far out before. For all they know, the Gbaba (or someone else just as advanced if not more) are right next door. |

I wouldn't think the Gbaba. But the someone else just as advanced if not more is something I've wondered about. If so, let's hope they are benign. Don When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

Yeah, that was a wonderful spoof in which David combined elements of all of his universes in a grand finale for Safehold, announcing that it wasn't going to happen that way. A nice piece of writing... Don - When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

It appears that the book description has been taken down at both the Macmillan and Amazon sites.
Does that mean anything? Delay in releasing the book? Change now that David's starting writing it? -- Bob G SF & Fantasy: The only things better than Chocolate.

Sorry to say but the answer is yes, no chance for the expected date of 10/25/16. Just after 9am today (07/01/16) DUCKK posted the following on another thread;
So no BOOM this year, Boom next most probably! -----

I doubt that the length of the ercs bears any relationship to the page count of the printed edition. Don - When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.
