Diet items containing phenylalanine.
Can't tell if it's natural or chem-lab.
Natural = no problem.
Chem-lab = hives.
Most of the things I like are addictive or otherwise not good for me.
Did you know that kissing causes cancer in lab rats?

Interesting progression from a slightly sharp to sour taste to cancer and sweeteners.
I have a friend who was a lab worker for the research team that demonstrated that cyclamates (an artificial sweeter without saccharin's bitter after taste) caused cancer in rats.(Research that was rumored to have been paid for by the Sugar Institute, but I have no knowledge if that is true or not). They found that it did, but in order to get the rats to develop brain cancer, they had to directly inject it into the rats brains. They couldn't get the rats to eat sufficient quantities of it to force a result, even when it was the only thing available to eat. The quantities being injected were the equivalent of a human drinking 17,000 cans of diet soda a day - which I believe would have caused more significant health problem than developing brain cancer - or at least a health problem that would have manifested more quickly.
Of course, cyclamates were banned as carcinogens, and that ban has never been lifted - Hurrah for unbiased scientific research.
