Hello SWM

Don't worry too much about getting older - - it ain't all bad :)

Besides, there's nothing anyone can do about it anyway !!!

As long as you have reasonable health, enough money for food and lodgings, and your sense of humour is intact, we Old Farts are just fine !!

And there ARE advantages ----

Like the "senior's menu" prices at Denny's ;)

My idea woulds revolve around exile somwhere very very remote like the southren tip of MacPhersons Lament or one of the islands in Rakurai Bay with nothing but the clothes on there backs.
Jay,

If you are going there, why not an island in rakurai bay itself for sheer irony. )
I belive thats what I said. Or they could exile them to various seperate locations in the Barren Lands, or may be Merlin can change thier appearence and 'sell' them into slavery in Trellhiem.
Hi John 964,

While DW has prepped his readers to desire suitable ends to the criminals of the Go4 etc, I suspect the MWW may be more realistic.

However clever we may be, I doubt we will guess what the MWW has in store for them.

For example, one of the principal points of William Goldman's 'The Princess Bride' was that life isn't fair, so who knows?

So far the suggested ends have been fairly conventional, despite some of the plot left hooks that DW has sent out of nowhere; so let us beware.

Suppose Maigwair whose thoughts we have yet to read, has had second thoughts (yes it was intentional); and rather than express them openly, he puts them in a secret journal?
But the Go4 only learns of it after he's been purged and its on its way to Charis?
Their desperate efforts to recover it might be hilarious!

Consider further that despite all the endless murders and tortures Clyntahn is responsible for, he might die all too quickly, without ever having a chance to reconsider all his abominations in this life, or that far too few will honestly mourn him.

The fact that he spends almost all his time inside the temple might be reinforcing his paranoia, which may mean they will have to go into his apartment to get him if that scenario ever arises.

Trynair as I've posted elsewhere might fall to Clyntahn, or survive any invasion, but only to see the temple collapse into a Harchong puppet, etc.

I doubt Duchairn's plotting will succeed (do we really know what he's plotting?), but who knows?
A sudden rebellion by the poor, after the Temple guards have been sent out to deal with a possible invasion by Charis might be interesting, but who does he trust?

Would he consider a plague or the rumor of one as means to empty Zion of all but the poor?

Will the circle martyrs be remembered on the anniversary of being seized, by retribution against the inquisition?

Is it something Angelica considers, then rejects?

Does some family member of a martyr with access to the Temple put a serpent or poisonous lizard into Clyntahn's apartment, but it kills a servant (possibly one of Samuel Wilson's spies?) or mistress instead, and Clyntahn sees it as a sign of heavenly approval and protection?

Life will get interesting indeed when the snippets begin in June(?)

Sorry this is so long,

L

Just had a thought.

Would it suit Merlin's plans if
the intelligence resident in some
members of the <GO4> could be
convinced to join the fight for
eventual victory against the Gbaba?

He did say to Cayleb that even the
enemies must be brought on board.

Well, the members of the <GO4> certainly
fall into that category !

Frankly, I don't see how <DW> can
manage that trick - - - but I have
faith that he can pull all kinds of
rabbits out of the hat if he wants :-)

To me, this plot twist would be
a real surprise !!

We shall see, we shall see.

Hi Kbus888,

I think you know Merlin was referring to the people in general, not any of their current specific enemies.

All of Safehold is going to have to start learning to think rationally, logically or scientifically without the CoGA blinders.

That's what Merlin meant.

Though it may mean decades for some countries.

More snippets, please.

Yes, I did know that is what Merlin meant.

My "random thought" was not based on Merlin's
aim but merely a (slightly wild) extension of it !!

I remember my father telling me that when Israel executed Adolf Eichmann, his father had said that he wouldn't have wanted him executed. Not because he hadn't amply deserved it, but rather because death was too good for him. I think the same about Clyntahn. I personally favor him being stuffed into a cryo capsule along with Trynair and Magwair and kept in suspension until Safehold is transformed into a world where they are no longer relevant.

I understand your Dad's point of view.

I remember asking my father what he thought
of capital punishment.

His answer was that "it cuts down
on repeat offenders".

If I may add to that opinion, I would also
state that the death penalty also acts
as somewhat of a deterrent to others
thinking of following the bad
example :-)

But - - - nothing in this world is perfect.

Hi Kbus888,

Sometimes the you can do is the best you can do.

I think the Norwegians may be re-evaluating their stance on capital punishment.

How many lunatics are on the streets because its unfair to them to keep them locked up until they do something horrible?

Yes there are abuses, sometimes horrible ones; but being limited human beings, we must do our best to protect as many of the innocent from vile predators, or the simply amoral as we humanly can.

DW certainly understands, that's why Honor Harrington does.

Heroes are human too, but they still try to do their duty.

Making the <Go4> "pay dearly and at great length" for their actions is quite tempting, I agree.

However to give an analogy, if I have rats in the house, I would not torture them but rather I'd simply kill them and move on with my life !!

If I have rats in my house, I'll let my cats torture them and turn a blind eye to it. On the other hand, the rabbit that's devastating my garden is going to get my PERSONAL attention, and at length! <evil cackling laugh>

Seriously, I'm in favor of executing Clyntahn even though I generally disapprove of capital punishment. Putting him to the Question and the Punishment is tempting, but I doubt it will happen that way.

I wouldn't mind it if Paityr Wylsynn activated his key in the Temple and we discovered that it awoke Schueler, who then took it upon himself personally to execute Clyntahn.
