Honestly after his behavior if he is not drummed out of the guard force he is in and stationed in icymccoldfridge as far away from the royal family as possible then the commanders of that force would be idiots.

Even without the access to his internal monologues no internal security service agent would be allowed to continue his job showing that level of disrespect to a superior officer IN FRONT of one of his charges.

I grew up in the military in the 50s/60s. People like that often ended up commanding Dew Line outposts.

First, recall the scene when the inquisitors were sent to take the Wylsyn brothers into custody. One of the brothers (can't recall which one) locked the door, but the inquisitors outside had a "wand" that could "override" the lock. Sounds like the door has a high-tech lock, and the inquisitors have some way of defeating it. Technology disguised as divine artifacts, but in the hands of people, not impersonal like the unbreakable windows of the Temple.

Second, in LaMA, the chat between Maigwair and Duchairn, where the latter muses about the persistent rumors about the Inquisitors being able to eavesdrop to any conversation that takes place within the Temple. Probably a rumor, but it's likely to have a kernel of truth somewhere (maybe the system developed a bug a couple of generations ago, or the system supervisor died without passing down the system password, or whatever).

Speculation number one: I think there's some technology in place, and that vanilla people have access to it. If it's placed close enough to the temple, it could be considered "legit" by the OBS. Or maybe the OBS has some kind of "white list" of locations that are considered "legit".

Speculation number two: Again, Nynian's convent. It's in Zion, and close to the temple. Maybe it was at some point a subsidiary facility to the Temple itself, perhaps a temporary facility while the Temple proper was constructed. If the builders were lazy, they might have opted to simply lock the door and cover it before leaving, and decades later, some adventurous nun found the door.

Opinions, anyone?

Interesting. I don't believe I ever said that Nynian's convent was anywhere in Zion, did I? In fact, I seem to recall mentioning that she was sent to convent school in part to keep her out of the public eye because of the circumstances of her birth, and sending her to a convent next door to the Temple wouldn't seem to be very much "out of sight, out of mind," no?

Ahhh, my mistake. Not the convent she was sent to, then.

But the point is still valid, I think. After all, she lived in Zion for decades under the guise of her "Madam" persona, so she could have found out something during that time. Maybe some indiscreet "pillow talk" from a powerful vicar? After all, I'm pretty sure that a LOT of the information she sent to Charis was collected that way (although she probably wasn't the person involved in the... ahem, collecting).

Maybe not a convent. But hey, maybe we've been too focused on that angle because it fits with her origins. It could be any building in Zion. Hell, it could even be her own pleasure house! (unlikely, but what the heck  )

There is no problem so complex that it cannot be solved through the judicious application of high-power explosives.

Indeed. That's why you introduced us to Nynian's brothel manager in Zion. IIRC, she was Harchongese. Harchong convents and monestaries are known for their strict adherence to the Writ. You mentioned that when informing us of where the Vicars' suviving children went after the Clyntahn purge.

Perhaps that convent is located in the Desolation Mountains where a little birdie told me there are rich iron deposits. Deposits that might hide emissions from satelite detection just as Nimue's cave was hidden/cloaked.

I prefer to think of it as very trusting. I trust you to make us work for every correct bit of speculation. :D

Personally I think he is going to be assigned to a look out post in Macpherson Lament or may be the Barren Lands or Claw Island or assigned as an embassy guard in the Raven Lands.

In a traditional society like Corisande, you can add assaulting a woman as the worst part of it. No way he is not kicked out of the guard, I would think, unless Nimue speak in his favor, which would shame him even more.

I think that some Raven Lands is going to be too good an assignment given how the relationship between Raven Lands and CHaris has improved lately.

I'd say re-assignment to Armageddon Reef is more likely given how bad he mucked up
