I'm not going to add any spoilers, so feel free to read this post...
I logged on to a friend's heavily used Prime account using the Firefox browser and was able to read (with all the really GOOD parts omitted) to page 268. I'll clearly have to start from page one when I get the book, since I noted a few scenes that I don't remember being in the snippets. Plus whenever the action got
particularly interesting, inevitably the next few pages were omitted!!!
I don't know if someone planned it that way, or if the pages are omitted randomly, but since
all of the really exciting parts that I was drooling to read were miraculously omitted, I sense the hand of an
incredibly sadistic human. (I wonder if RFC picked the parts to omit?)
Had we gotten another couple of snippets, we'd have come to
hate the Inquisition
so deeply that we'd demand it be obliterated from existence as part of any peace talks, and that
every inquisitor suffer the fate Charis has decreed for them. The preview (on my Amazon account, not my friend's Prime account) ended with a cliffhanger on page 165 that would have made RFC proud. (If he didn't pick that exact spot to omit the next few pages himself that is!) The good parts that came shortly thereafter using the Prime account were also omitted, so
somebody is toying with us! (I'm looking at
you RFC!)
I didn't read any of the List of Characters, since if something bad is going to happen to anyone, I want to read about it in full as it happens, not find out about it by reading an obituary or hospital report. I inadvertently found out about Nahrmahn's return by scanning the preview of LaMA, which ruined the surprise for me. I'm not going to do that sort of thing again.
All in all, I'm surprised by some of the twists and the out-of-the-box actions the plot is taking. The battles are looking to be more difficult than it appeared they would be - but we've seen that coming for quite a while, so it's no surprise. Since there weren't any really major battles before page 268, I'll just have to wait to see how the new weapons on each side work out. (Although the description of some of the new weapons on both sides was omitted.)
Frankly, the book could have been snippeted all the way to page 268 and we wouldn't have gotten to the big stuff, although the based on the context some of the omitted pages
must have been really entertaining!
At this point the cover still doesn't make sense though!
