Top right corner gives you the choice of posting a reply (without quoting anyone)

Personally, I write out my posts in a local text file and when satisfied, I copy it to the forum-based reply whether or not I am replying with a quote.

That way, I can correct spelling mistakes (and I swear I have ten thumbs when I type !!) before posting.

Also, if my post reply is interrupted, it`s no big deal to start over at some later time.

??Does this help??

Is there someplace where I can learn how to navigate at this site or within a thread?

Are there time limits/automatic logoffs? When I write a post it takes a while because I compose and edit. Twice now when I've clicked on Preview I got kicked back to Login and my post is gone. :?

As well, to add anything I have to Reply with Quote and delete the quote.

There is a an automatic log off. Forget which end it is on.

But generally what I do (using Firefox and Windows XP) is to do a ctrl-actrl-c before clicking the submit button. Then if it logs me off I just navigate back to the thread and new post ctrl-v and the text including any quotes you have is filled in.

An alternate is to open a new tab and click on the forums to ensure you are still logged on. If not log on before hitting submit in the submit button.

Not sure if the stay logged on (in the log on screen) or what ever it is will bypass the problem.

Welcome aboard and look forward to your posts.

Have fun,

Hi all,

Sorry to be so long in responding; several offline situations required solutions.

Thanks to all for your responses and information which helped me move along my learning curve(starting from zero regarding readers :-).

Seems like a good starting point would be to list what hard-/soft-ware I have and what I would like to end up with.

I have a desktop computer with added external USB hard drives for data and one free SATA port. My OS is Fedora Linux v. 19 and I use periodically updated Firefox as my browser.

I want:
1. non DRM books, Dave's and others, e.g., SM Stirling
2. a reader that lets me use my monitor(from 1600x900 down).
3. a reader with minimum hardware(cost) that allows #2

As I understand it, some readers are optimized for(limited to?) specific browsers like Chrome. I have lots of room for browser apps and readers.

A lot of the search-result sites I visited seemed to have 2012 dates; where might I find more up-to-date sites on non-DRM sources and related readers?

Thanks again for your help and answers,
Joshua

BTW, I'm sure I've looked right past how to log off; could someone point it out?

As for your #1, you can be assured that all of David Weber's books are free of DRM. He only uses two publishers, Baen and Tor, and those are the (only) publishers that never use DRM. Similarly, any other books you find from those publishers will also be free of DRM. Unfortunately, if you want a book which is not published by Baen or Tor and is not out of copyright, I'm afraid that you will have to deal with DRM.

When you are at the top level (forums.davidweber.net), at the top of the screen will be a logout(your name). Clicking on that button will log you out.
