Old Folk moment :( The supplier of Marvin's disintegrating pistol in "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 century" is A-1, not ACE. "Martian Matomic" supplies the planet smasher. All of Duck Dodgers' stuff is by ACME (and for the most part works better than Wile E. Coyote's stuff.)

I didn't track down any of Marvin's encounters with Bugs, though.

The drawings I found indicating ACME may have been storyboards prior to assembling the cartoon feature. It wouldn't do to have ACME in space when all their Earth equipment malfunctions.

What, you don't think RoadRunner Industries products would work off-planet? Remember, he never studied law, so the law of gravity doesn't apply to him. So Marvin could well have been a purchaser.

Besides, all the stuff Wiley got was from factory seconds.. :P

Aaaand I think we're probably far enough off topic for the nonce...

( Unlimbers ACME (RT) straight jacket firing bazooka just in case...)

As for the idea that the Safehold Church knows that Archangels can be fallible and might "argue" with the Archangels, while some like Clyntahn might "openly disagree", IMO the majority of the Safehold Clergy would believe that the Archangels came from God and God was not happy with them.

In addition, as has been mentioned, the text evidence in OAR is that Archangels have high-tech weapons so they'd be able to "make examples" of some of the clergy.

While Clyntahn isn't likely to accept their authority, I doubt that he'd have much support from the rank and file members of the Inquisition.

If he's lucky, the Archangels would just kill him.

I was thinking more in terms of "lets quietly take care of it before anyone knows and pretend there never was an archangel". I have no doubt that Clynthan for exemple carries some weapon with him at all time. While he wouldn't want to take on a fully equiped and ready archangel, cutting his throat as he stumbles out of a cryogenic pod for exemple shouldn't be a problem. Then all that is needed is to quietly takecare of the body. Or even better: pretend that the heretics are trying to impersonate archangels to take control of the Church.

I agree that if he let the chance pass (because he can't bring himself to hurt an angel afterall, or he doesn't realise that he can do it), then it's too late to do it afterwards (unless there is some plot to put the blame on the heretics of course). But even then the resentment from church officials could be a powerfull drag on the archangel.

I doubt anyone in the Temple area would be in the room the cryo pod is in. There are likely certain indicators that a visit by an Archangel or the servant of one is coming, but anyone on Safehold seeing one waking and coming out of a cryo pod? Not a chance. It's high tech, and that is something that Langhorne and his goons were vehemently against the rest of Safehold having.

So in all likelihood the Archangel (or whoever it is) will wake up, recover from a prolonged sleep, read up on what's happened since the start if his/her sleep (Temple recordings), get geared out, then he/she would let the rest of the Temple know that an Archangel or servant of one is coming to visit. They would probably slip out in a skimmer then come down in a blaze of light and glory with psalms and a heavenly choir blaring out hosannas and the Temple might start glowing, flashing lights and/or playing music to help the illusion that a real Archangel/servant of God is coming to visit. If Cylntahn tried to kill said Archangel, he'd be killed for high treason and high blasphemy.

We know that Nimue's cave went undetected by Chichiro.
We know that up till Narhman's death and going to VR, OWL (like most computers) wasn't offering information freely.
Question: If there is another hidden cave, or caves, (put in place by friends of Shan-wei, and not kmown to Pei Kau-yung), could a PICA detect it if the PICA wasn'looking for it?
Could it be Pei Shan-wei allowed Alexandria to happen like Coventry, England (of note, Churchill's private secretary and otbers tell a different story, claiming the target was unknown until the bombers flew over London).
There are several areas unpopulated, or lightly populated, where such a facility might exist. Maybe, underwater.

If this hypothetical cave had any significant amount of high tech in it, the only way that Langhorne could not have known about it is if it were built during the terraforming, like Merlin's cave. In which case Pei would have known about it.

Langhorne was in charge of the colony, and he was keeping close track of all high tech. Shan-Wei could not possibly have hidden anything significant away after Langhorne came to Safehold and took charge. That's why they made Merlin's cave the way they did.

I can see your point.
And although Eric had an ego the size of Gibraltar, he had others to assist him in keeping an eye on Pei Shan-wei. But Dr. Elias Proctor was a cybernetist. Hmmn.
Probability vs. Possibility.
Odds are really against them doing it on the sly. But Pei Kau-yung deceived Langhorne and his group (Up until the KAHBOOM).
Was there another infiltrator?
If so, who?

I believe that the text of OAR indicates that the temple was built after the beginning of the war of the fallen, which means that Langhorne was already dead, and thus could have had no input on the construction of the temple.

This particular response was not about the Temple. TN4994 wondered whether Shan-Wei might have built a hidden cave that Pei did not know about.

My mistake, sorry, thought I was responding to a temple post.

I thought the caves were part of the official terraforming effort. Weren't they supposed to house facilities for the restricted use of technology allowed by the original chart, and built deep under iron ore deposits for concealment purposes or something ?

Which is very strange, now that I think about it : how is iron ore supposed to stop the neutrinos the Gbabas use to detect technology when the main property of neutrinos is almost inexistent interaction with matter ?
