After all, unless they have truly prodigious lifespans, which I'm not entirely ruling out, all the Gbabba who actually attacked earth will be long dead by the time a Safehold Grand Fleet goes to off to deal with the problem. Besides, the whole series has strong themes of personal moral responsibility and relationship with God. It would be unlike RFC to simply abandon those for part 3 and turn it into what he sometimes calls 'war porn'.

As the Safehold series themes echo the ones in the Dahak series (of course much better done and being considerably more mature sf than the Dahak books which are fun but pulp sf to a large extent), I would say that we are guaranteed that the Gbaba solution will be more complex than genocide

Orthey discover the Gbaba don't believe in pushing new tech warships to the front until the supply of old tech warships is exhausted, and the war is much more even than expected.

And they're defeated while they're building those new warships. There's no doubt Merlin will hit them with overwhelming firepower, it's going to be a short war.

As the saying goes "History doesn't repeat itself, but it occasionally rhymes". While the Author does occasionally have story lines which echo previous ones he wrote, they don't repeat.

And beware the "Short, Victorious War". He's done that. (how many books did the Honorverse end up so far??)
