IIRC, that was caused by a fundamental disagreement between David Weber and John Ringo on the plot for the 5th book. More specifically, the role that Roger would have.

So we'll never know what happened to Roger?
In a perfect universe they could have written two dueling books for the fans to judge. Both are consummate story tellers, but I tend to favour Davd as John's politics jar some times.
