Maybe some Siddarmarkian should take up the challenge. It only seems right.

Maybe Irys can take up the challenge of having her twins be musical prodigies.

No, that's banjo and bagpipes.

IIRC Charis has a concerto for fife drum guitar banjo and bagpipes.

Also Merlin felt like his hearing had been assaulted by a blunt musical instrument.

Lessee ... One of my faves was in the Civil War, "Goober Peas" (boiled peanuts), hard little things for the almost-starving army of Lee. Here's a slight alteration for Glacierheart (corn is short for acorn):

Chorus: Corns, corns, corns, corns
Eatin' nearoak corns,
Goodness, how delicious!
Eatin' nearoak corns.

The enemy was drawing near, the General hears a row,
"'Tis the Church of God Awaiting, I can hear their rifles now!"
He turns around in wonder as with cracks the air is torn,
It's the Glacierheart militia, eatin' nearoak corns.

Corns, corns, corns, corns
Eatin' nearoak corns,
Goodness, how delicious!
Eatin' nearoak corns.

Some other faves are French, like:

"Il etait un petit navire,
Il etait un petit navire,
Qui navait ja-ja-jamais navigue,
Qui navait ja-ja-jamais navigue, ohe, ohe."

That one would be good for the first ironclads.

But the one I like (not sure it's military, since cadet means both cadet in the Army and "younger" of two brothers, but there's a song about an enfant terrible whose chorus is:

Ah! Mais! Oui, mais vraiment,
Cadet Roussel est bon enfant!

Or, very loosely translated, the gist is:

Ah! But! Never mind how --
Zhaspahr Clyntahn's a good boy now.

He tried to kill off Charis to create a Schueler fief,
Blamed his failure on Erayk and Wylsynns and killed and tortured each,
Assassinated Hektor, as any Corisandian can tell,
Slaughtered prison camp infants before we sent Inquisitors to Hell.

Ah! But! Never mind how --
Zhaspahr Clyntahn's a good boy now.

The Grand Fornicator screwed over Ahlvarez and Thirsk
So he could reward his procurer Rayno and screw the Harchongese serfs,
If Langhorne appeared tomorrow, he'd assume he was Shan-Wei,
'Cause Langhorne wouldn't bend over and let him have his way.

All together now:
Ah! But! Never mind how --
Zhaspahr Clyntahn's a good boy now.
