ALso, i suggested they also publish the things they are not allowing. The idea of it would spread, and people around the world, could potentially start messing around. The church us desperate, so may be willing to allow ideas that are useful or money making, so weakening the proscriptions even more. this would claw at the church, yet cant be directly blamed to charis as they are still officially following the proscriptions.
Once let loose in the world, the church would find it next to impossible to remove.

I understand what you are saying. But there is no need for it. The Charis patent office is already producing a steady stream of new ideas. They are getting more work than they can handle. There is no need for them to drag out ideas that are 400, 600, 800 years old, because they are producing new ideas faster than they can get them published. They just don't have enough people to do it, and there's no point in doing it if they are already producing ideas.

I agree with SWM. And the Church is going to have to allow most of the things that are coming out of Charis, or they don't have a chance in hell of winning the war. And once these things are out in the open, trying to put them back into the bottle will be impossible, much as Clyntahn thinks he will be able to do so. Just as it was impossible to suppress gunpowder after it had been in use for a bit.

A few things to think about the Inquisition's records concerning suggested ideas.

First, the Inquisition wants people to submit the ideas for approval. So unless the inventor has really gone off the deep end (ie something to do with electricity), the Inquisition isn't likely to kill somebody for "just suggesting something". Of course, if the inventor has gone off the deep end, he's not likely to submit his idea to the Inquisition.

Second, if the Inquisitor approves an idea, then there will be a record of what the idea involves and an official reason for approving the idea. Obviously the Inquisitor isn't going to say anything about bribes. :)

Third, if the Inquisitor doesn't approve the idea, then there will be a record of what the idea involves and an official reason for rejecting the idea.

These records will become part of the "Library" that other Inquisitors will use to approve or disapprove ideas that come across their desks. After all, why "reinvent the wheel".

Now, there is possibility that a given Inquisitor may disagree with an earlier disapproval (or even an earlier approval) but IMO the Inquisitor is very unlikely to over-ride the earlier decision. The most he might do is send the idea to his higher-ups with his reasons for a change in status so that they might approve or disapprove the change in status.

Obviously, a request for a change in status might be rejected and depending on his superiors making such a request might dangerous for him.

Finally, I doubt that Charis will be going through the records of earlier disapprovals in search of ideas. Charis has enough smart people that it wouldn't be necessary. On the other hand, the main Church might see the need, in order to compete with Charis, to review earlier disapprovals to find ideas that might be useful. On the gripping hand, I'd hate to be the person to talk with Clyntahn about approving some earlier disapproved idea.
