Thanks for the snippet RFC!

Almost 700 miles in a 16 foot sailing dinghy

If Clyntahn does not have him executed as a Charisian spy, then that army Lt., should be given Thorast's job

Thanks RFC

That little snippet answered the question of how badly the Dohlar forces got chewed up. Also it hinted how nicely the Siddermark army is coming back with a vengeance.

I just hope Thirsk survives; I have a soft spot for him, even though technically he is an enemy he knows in himself he is on the wrong side ....

I would guess that Thirsk is more likely to survive then Alvarez (unless the ICA picks him up).

As of now Alvarez has had the poor grace of being defeated by the EoC, while having the temerity to have survived  This will, quite possibly put him in the "gutless" column as far as Clyntahn is concerned.

By the time Thirsk gets defeated again Dohlar itself may surrender (he is in the capital itself IIRC) which would happen to put him (and hopefully) his family out of the inquisition's reach.

A 6.5 meter boat did quite well finishing first on handicap and sixth overall against many much larger boats this year in the recent Halifax --> St. Pierre race. Definitely small for open ocean, though the boat is designed for such things.

All hail the great wizard! :!:

Guess I was wrong about the timing (I'd thought it would take at least another month until they heard about Claw Island). At the same time I was right about the Dohlaran Crown looking at the RDN for the military resources it would need to shore up it's military weaknesses on land. It's almost certain that Thirsk will not be permitted to show the "necessary initiative" and sail out to retake Claw Island. Yet they're not likely to have the time to retrain all these sailors to become soldiers even if someone has that brilliant idea. But they are likely to re-prioritize everything towards the army where material assets are concerned. And if that happens, Thirsk is likely to be seriously deficient in the supplies and logistical department and he may well be short on actual guns and ammo as well.

Another interesting point is the effect this defeat will have on Thirsk's enemies at court and upon Clyntahn's attitudes. The former will be doing a lot of damage control yet it might all come to naught if Ahlverez survives and gets back to Dohlar (unlikely true, but still a possibility). Yet after placing so much political capital in their favorites, the options available to Thorast and the Ahlverez family are rather limited. The only real option they'll have is to blame the Desnairians and rely heavily on all the letters he sent pleading to be given orders to operate independently. Which is likely to encounter resistance in the form of the Desnairian nobles who escaped to the AoG forces on the Daivyn.

Once that blame game begins, the church (and Clyntahn) will be in one hell of a bind - Condemn Ahlverez for cowardice and risk compromising the loyalty of Dohlar in the middle of the Jihad, which could require a forced change to the Dohlaran power structure (Thorast goes out). But with Clyntahn's already poor opinion of Thirsk and his loyalists in the navy, who would replace Thorast as Navy Minister? It's sure as Shan-wei won't be Thirsk! Nor would it be anyone close to him as well. Is there anyone who is outside of the Thirsk-Thorast confrontation who has any idea about naval matters? Obviously Clyntahn will look for someone to blame for this disaster and someone to cultivate to replace all of the "weaklings" and "incompetents" - But who's left?

If Thirst is replaced, I think Clyntahn will replace Thirsk with an member of the Inquisition.

Inquisition members are really the only ones he can trust and surely, if he is not really really stupid, he must realize that by now.
