Hi Alistair, hi guys;

Past threads have concluded the same result of Desnar dragging its feet to send another army beyond its borders.

The locals Desnari army in Northwatch province and the Silkiah garrison will naturally defend themselves.

regarding the numbers of the Desnari nobility, do the math please; the Desnar infantry regiment has 7 officers out of 690, of which there were under 90; and 22 officers in the 705 man cavalry regiments that numbered 160 for 4150 without adding artillery and staff for potentially ~5000, despite the dearth of quartermasters, as I have previously posted on this subject.

The infantry may have most of the 'middle class' officers, given the aristocratic preference for the cavalry.

If the navy averaged a dozen officers per ship and 40-50 were wrecked, the losses might have been up to ~400-500 besides those manning the forts etc.

Remember the Go4 paid for the AoJ, especially the infantry and artillery so the Desnari empire isn't about to fund another campaign when it can't, relying upon CoGA subsidies just to maintain itself as is.

Now Clyntahn may insist, compelling with the inquisition, but if Howard gets cut off from Haven, the local inquisition may find itself trying to wing it without much guidance or direction, which could be very dangerous given how outnumbered they'd be.

Given the size of Desnar, several million square miles and a population of ~148 million, even if the nobility were only one out of five hundred [low] to more than 1% [possible after 700+ years] the loss rate is still very low proportionally.

How many fathers or inheritors [second or third sons inheriting from the mother's side or family without children etc] have been killed is a question that RFC hasn't answered yet.

The unintended consequences in Desnar could indeed be rather interesting as past threads have speculated, but I doubt the families with lost sons and husbands etc will blame the church or the empire, at least initially because the republic is too easy, and too traditional.

Later when more rationality seeps in, the families may begin to realize just how incompetent Harless and the empire was and are.

While a second lesson may need to be administered, the example of Northwatch may be enough for the empire to leave the alliance alone.

Regarding the remainder of the Desnari fleet at Geyra etc, sending the ironclads to destroy it and shelling the capitol might reveal too much too soon, unless it happens after Silkiah is taken by the alliance.

NTM if RFC just finished it, I'm afraid March-April 2015 is the more likely issue time.

I imagine that all of the officer core are of good blood with only a handful of "middle class" officers.

So arguably Desnair has lost over 2000 nobles in its clashes with Charis.

What impact will that have on the politics back home?

Secondly given that the Aristocrats rule Desnair unlike the mandarins in Harchong. How willing will they be to raise pay and send another army with more of their heirs putting there lives on the line.

My answer:

I suspect that the Aristocracy will start dragging its feet where an a new offensive army will be concerned but will be willing to defend its territorial integrity from a Siddarmark invasion.

Seeing as there is no parole due to the jihad, will they simply remain as prisoners, or could they ransom them back to the army of god? They do need someone to blame, and hand over to the church for punishment.

Would Charis ransom back Desnairians, knowing that they will be tortured and executed?

I think it more likely Charis will offer citizenship in the Empire to most of the POW's rather than sending them back to certain torture.

Charis can always use the extra manpower, after all - - -

Hi KBuss888,

I think the republic is far more likely to make the offer, if the offer is made at all, than the EoC; the empire has plenty of land etc to offer its citizens and doesn't need the cultural complications while the republic needs a labor workforce to rebuild.

While ransoming officers mat be very remunerative, I'm not sure Cayleb etc is in favor of it in this war, so we'll have to wait for RFC.
