Considering how us sentient beings in the here and now manage to fight and commit genocide, I wouldn't be so sure that waking them up from acting by reflexes to acting intelligently would be a good idea.

They might get even better at the genocide thing!


What makes you think that other beings would consider us sentient, or even alive, for that matter? Note that we seem to exist in a very minor component of the universe, and most life and sentience should reasonably expected to be in the dark matter/dark energy realms.
