Which war was that? For the Boer, First and Second World Wars NZ marched in lockstep alongside Australia at Great Britain's tune. Even the Malayan Emergency and Korean wars they were among the first to assist.

It wasn't until Konfrontasi (Borneo confrontation) and the Vietanam war that there was any rumblings of being dragged into conflict and even then once the Konfrontasi ended forces were redeployed to Nam under the Aussies. The only major political complaining was over nuclear testing in the Pacific which eventually rendered the NZ portion of the ANZUS agreement DoA in the 80's.

They did start complaining though, didn't they?
