I think if Duchairn had any family worth mentioning, it would be. Remember how Thrisk is always terrified that the Inquisition would do something to his family. There's no way Duchairn lives near Clynathn and didn't consider this aspect even once.

It was mentioned in OAR (when Erayk thinks about his wife)that a priest has to be married before he can be elevated to Bishop. That means Rayno must have been married, but I have no idea if he still is. Of course, even if his wife is still alive it's possible that it was a political arrangement and he doesn't care what happens to her.
I'm not sure if Vicars must have been Bishops and Archbishops first. Clyntahn clearly doesn't care about any of his mistresses. I doubt they'd be targets, since it must be well known how easily he discards them when he gets bored. I haven't seen any mention of him being married. In AMF Duchairn thinks about "his brothers, his sister, and their families" and what the Inquisition would do to them if he tried to stop Clyntahn. There is no mention of a wife or any children of his own. |

I've always wondered about this.
I'd like to know more about Clyntahn's pedigree and his lineage, and how that helped him ascend to such great power. I think this was covered in Off Armageddon Reef, but it's been a while since I read the book. All I remember was Samyl losing out to Clyntahn under dubious circumstances in the election for Grand Vicar. |
