Unfortunately, there is a problem with that date. This is the problem that David discussed, where somehow the number of years between Pei's nuke and Nimue's waking got changed from 825 to 750 years. The infodump that Drak quoted tells us that Nimue woke in 890, 906 Terran years after the end of the Rebellion. The Rebellion ended Terran 16 years after Pei's nuke. Nimue actually woke in 3324 AD, not 3249.

Don't worry--I had forgotten that detail myself. I knew that there was a mixup in times, but I had forgotten it pushed forward the Terran date of Nimue's awakening.

If you figure minutes per year: 750 Terran years equates to 825 Safeholdian years, approximately.

Hi Don,

Thanks for the correction.

How I got to 300 years is a puzzle now.

Old age I guess. ;)

Here is the quote that I was remembering when I made my previous post. It happens in the midst of Merlin's ruimination upon Father Paityr's revelation...

"The Archangels will return, he thought. What the hell does that mean? Were those lunatics crazy enough to put a bunch of Archangels into cryo under there? Were they actually willing to trust the cryo systems to keep them going that long? And even if they were, could the systems stand up that many years? So far as he knew, no one had ever used the cryo suspension systems for a period greater than thirty or forty years. Theorectically, they were supposed to be good for up to a century and a half. But nine centuries?"

As you can see, I didn't remember the quote quite right, but I did get the main sense of it in my previous post.

Do you have something additional that would add to or qualify this information.

Don

The Angelic War didn't happen until long after the Creation, and the surviving Angels lived quite a while after that as well.

I think this whole cryogenic suspension idea as well as relativistic spaceships are just red herrings to distract the readers. We know that the angels aged until they "moved on". If you'd have cryogenic suspension and use it intelligently, the angels and archangels (Chihiro for one) would have "frozen up" before they their reached their dotage. They obviously didn't. ;)
Relativistic velocity spaceships - well, one lump of dirt in your track (which you can't see :!: ), and you're so much radiation. Not a good idea  .

I think we got a hint in what terms at least Schueler (and he's the one who likely stated the 1000 years figure) was thinking. His key is a massive, heavily encrypted (whyever) data storage. It likely contains his stored personality which would run the computer below the Temple. If that's true, he could have stored a copy on automatic activation on the same platform. What we don't know is if Chihiro (and his supporters) were aware of that plan, endorsed it, or if they made independent provisions - if at all.

Hi anwi,

Your guess here seems to me the most plausible one I've heard so far. I suppose I think so because it is a more elaborate version of my own...

I like your elaborations, by the way!

Yes, and that's what led to the error. David had written 825 years, and the editor assumed he meant 825 Safeholdian years and changed it to 750 Terran years. David had actually intended 825 Terran years and 906 Safeholdian years.

In one book the character had his name changed to another character on the same two facing pages.

Do not meddle in the affairs of editors, for even if they are not necessarily subtle, you never know, they might be quick to anger.

Well, that's if you want snippets and the next book to be published on schedule, of course.
