So BGV clears the Gap. He sort of gets a booby prize cuz he'll have several thousand prisoners to deal with. I'd love to hear the thoughts of you mountain & winter warfare guys on how he moves, feeds, houses, provides medical care for them and all the other things you have to do for prisoners. Some of them will have Safeholdian winter gear, but not all to make it interesting.

Easy, peasy. BGV hands them over to attached RSA soldiers who either marches them back towards Sidar City or they sit and wait for spring. |

They might have an easy time containing them. Take away their winter gear and limit them to their containment areas. Thye cant exaxlt attempt to escape throught the snow with no supplies, they would either be recaptures or die from the elements. They would wait for summer, and even with some kind of supplies.

why capture? why not just go around? if they can't move during winter the are a minimal threat. depending on the supply situation they may not be good for much come spring except planting. laz |

Green Valley is attempting to trap Wyrshym's forces in the gap and starve them out and he is doing this by moving a fairly large force through near arctic conditions into position behind the AoG's forces in the gap. If he is successful in shutting the door behind him (as he characterized it in LAMA) come spring Wyrshym will have no way to feed and supply his troops in time. If he should deign to surrender (despite what he knows Clyntahn will do to him) all the allies need to do is to allow small parties of AoG troops to pass through the Southern end of the Sylmahn Gap and into the loving arms of the Charisians and Siddarmarkians there (and then shipped out to POW camps behind the lines).
It could still go south on Green Valley BTW. While we know that the AoG hasn't spotted them coming and that the Canal Raid left them at the end of a very thin supply line even before the snows set in, Wyrshym is still supplied sufficiently to feed his troops throughout the winter (barely) and any troop losses only make the existing food supply last longer. His major problem is likely to be ammunition and medical supplies. That can also be said about Green Valley too though to a lesser degree as he is likely to have established a functional supply line for his troops north of the Gap. If Green Valley starts attacking Wyrshym's forces from the north while the troops in the south do the same (assuming they can hear the gun fire or see whatever signal flares go up) and do it quickly without Wyrshym getting wind of it in time he might overwhelm them. It's also likely that the trenches the AoG has all face south while digging new trenches to the north in frozen ground is not going to be easy or fast. But if Wyrshym entertained the impossible notion that the Charisians might try to pull a stunt like this, he will have at least some trenches there and scouts posted to the north. In that case he'll just hunker down, hoping to avoid major losses and hope that fresh church forces can come in from Hildermoss or wherever else to hit Green Valley from behind. If they have the time that is. |

Dont forget [Snippet #9 I think] that BGV's engineers are reparing the semaphore stations as they go - so he should have good coms back to Allynton and thence to Serabor [souther end of Sylmahn valley] within an hour or so [weather permitting!] making it quite possible to launch such a coordinated operation. Turn Wryshams eyes northward, draw off his reserves and then kick him in the back |

This is a religious war. They don't have the overdeveloped rules of engagement that seem to hinder western armies in the real world in recent conflicts. Tie that to the fact that BGV knows about the extermination camps. This attack will uncover at least at couple of those camps so everyone in this corps will know about them and what the AOG has been doing to RS civilians. How many prisoners do you think the grunts will take? |

The assumption is that any attempt will be made to take prisoners rather than following traditional Mongolian rules (used by the Japanese in WWII - with a bit over 30% mortality) - kill the unskilled or unable to work and enslave the rest and if you resist everyone dies (including the cats and dogs), or follow the Russian (also used by the Germans in WWII)technique - point them to the rear with an armed guard and feed them when they reach the nearest POW camp (about 40% of Russian POW's held by the Germans survived compared to the 65% of Germans held by the Russians). |

I presume that prisoners will be taken and the policy will be to treat them as humanely as possible.
After Wyrshym is defeated, the Sylvan Gap will be opened, shortening BGV's supply lines. The prisoners will be sent down the gap to camps in the rear areas. Don When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

Hi USMA74,
The concentration-extermination camps are much further west than Guarnak, out of Wyrshym's AoR I believe, so finding any such camps would be a surprise. We have the example of DE's men with Kaitswyrth's and the AoS, NTM BGV's at Serabor, to show that prisoners will be taken care of, whether in place and escorted back [it could be a matter of only holding them in place for a 5day or two before it was warm enough to move them to the rear. They might send details to cut trees for firewood and tent poles etc everyday, rotating through each hut who gets such exercise, so the winter clothing is kept in use, while the others in the hut adapt what they have of extra uniforms and the left over scraps into more cold weather coats and pants for the march to the rear etc. L
Any snippet or post from RFC is good if not great!
