Hi Hank,

Given all the various ways weapons wound, 20th-21st century weapons do the same as all previous weapons- kill and break things.

One assumes veteran's hospitals have existed for the survivor's since the war of the archangels, so given the traditions and history of the ICN [Charis's senior service] dedicated navy hospitals for the wounded have probably existed for a couple of centuries.

I doubt RFC has overlooked such, they just weren't germane to the stories, but do you doubt our heroes would abandon their own in their time of greatest need?

BTW, plastic surgery is rather ancient, so could some corrective work be done on your poor example, though he may have soon died of his injuries, such as blood loss since the head has few pressure points they'd be aware of etc.

Hank Plantagenet wrote:With the industrialization of warfare on Safehold, the increased use of high explosives is going to produce a lot of horrific wounds. I know that the state of medicine is not that great on Safehold, and that the healers have their knives to kill the expectant cases with Pasquale's Grace, but certainly there will be some soldiers that survive blinded, or crippled, or missing limbs.

For example, from LAMA at the battle of Thesmar:

"One of the wounded was screaming, the sound high and shrill as he clawed at the bloody ruin of his face..."

If that man survives, what happens to him?

In addition to the physical injuries, there will be cases of men who are broken mentally. Whether you call it shell shock, or battle fatigue, or PTSD, there are going to be some who cannot take the high intensity battle.

What happens to them?
Any snippet or post from RFC is good if not great!
